Knack Review | GameGrin

There’s a chapter in PS4 platformer Knack titled ‘back to basics’. It’s ironic, really, as that’s a phrase that actually relates to the game in general in many, many ways. While console launch games rarely excel at innovation and originality, Knack is disappointingly uninspired in its design, presentation and mechanics.

Jaded reviewers be damned! I enjoyed the hell out of this game!

I think Knack is better than the Daxter and Ratchet series.

I dunno how this game is "uninspired."

KonsoruMasuta992d ago

That is a big no. This game is not better than Dexter and Ratchet.

It's one thing to enjoy Knack... I know I did, but to say it's better than R&C or J&D is a bit much. The story and characters in Knack are not even close to the same levels as the other series. And the quality of level design is worlds apart. You're entitled to your opinion, but there are some things about storytelling and level design which are evident in the final product. I really enjoyed Knack, but come-on, you can't seriously tell me that Knack is better than the others as a video game.

SegaSaturn669992d ago

I absolutely did. I thought the simplicity of the world design was what set it apart especially from daxter.

Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal is my all time favorite game. NO way Knack is better.

Good for you. You like it god if he doesn't oh well not like he telling you not to like it.

KonsoruMasuta992d ago (Edited 992d ago )

Not really. That score is about right.

The game isn't horrible, it's just not very good. It's average at best.
Still better than Ryse though.

lifeisgamesok992d ago

Lol there's no way Knack is better than Ryse

6.5 seems about right to me... i might even give it a 7 if i was feeling generous.

despite the poorly balanced difficulty spikes and surreally awful story and voice acting, when it worked it worked well and was fun to play.

OrangePowerz992d ago (Edited 992d ago )

It's a fun game, certainly not one of the best platformers, but if you like old school platformers like Crash Bandicoot it will feel familiar.

It's fun if you like that kind of games, I certainly do, but it's not everybody's cup of tea.

DrJones992d ago

Don't compare this with Crash Bandicoot.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory992d ago (Edited 992d ago )

not even considered even a good platformer either. It platforming isn't even no where close to Mario, Yoshi, Sonic, Megaman, Rayman, Wario, Donkey Kong, Jak & Daxter, Banjo, Conker, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Kirby and you name it.

Knack seems like a game that you buy because it's one of the few launch games and to give it a shot. It's probably a nice game nothing spectacular and I think the scores are fair for an average game which is what it looks like an average game. I'm hoping it ends up on PS+ really soon. I don't feel like it's worth the 60

this game is way better than these troll reviews suggest... and let's not kid ourselves, here - the only reason this article has even been posted is because there was a positive review of the game posted earlier today.

Ewok992d ago (Edited 992d ago )

Posted this along with 2 other pieces at the same time, based on what was outstanding from the site. No consideration was given to when other reviews were published and how they were scored.

Neither is this a 'troll' review, it's an honest piece written by an avid gamer and experienced writer based on his experiences with the game. I would point out also that the score given is significantly higher than the 5.4/10 critical average for the game, and more-or-less dead on for the 6.6 user rating.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to be clear there is no disingenuous scoring or trolling for hits going on at GameGrin - we score honestly based on what we thought of the game.
