Project CARS Brands Hatch first look gameplay - max settings

VVV: "We've seen plenty of photogenic screenshots showing off Project CARS' dashing good looks, but can this level of finesse really live up in-game? The answer to that is a resounding yes - providing you have a capable PC at this stage, of course.

Seen here running on maximum settings, its visual prowess is instantly apparent when watching Project CARS in motion, from the buttery-smooth frame rate to the dazzling details such as the leaves swirling across the track." (PC, Project CARS, PS4, Wii U, Xbox One)

Max settings gameplay!!!........off-screen, lol.

I love how the dashboard goes out of focus when you are turning a corner or overtaking someone, that is a really nice touch. I look forward to this on my PS4.

Exactly what I was thinking.

The one in the bottom left corner was off screen sure, but the main video (inside helmet camera) was recorded using fraps, so it is not offscreen.

@MasterCornholio

The thing is, reading it back i can fully understand how someone can see that end sentence as being a sly, petty, fanboy remark, but i really didn't mean it like that.

But some people are just incredibly bitter (and jealous?
), such as morepowerofgreen. Sucks for them.

In my opinion any normal person can see that your comment isn't one of a blind fanboy. But there are some mentally ill posters who will twist that into a comment by a rabid sony fanboy. MorePowerOfGreen and thezeldadoth are examples of people who always troll to defend their respective systems and they will twist sensible comments like yours into comments by a rabid Sony fanboy. But I agree with you sucks to be them because since they are so closed minded they will never enjoy all that gaming has to offer them.

Not sure if that congratulations is sarcasm. Let him be happy with his choice. At least the PC is finally getting something decent that isn't a console port, MMO, ARPG or indie game under 200mb.

I remember back in the 90's early 2000's when the PC was the place to be. Dues Ex, Half Life the quakes, Unreal tournament and all the brilliant exclusives the PC used to get. These days it's pretty boring, infact I don't know why I still upgrade my PC. Well, I do, for the once in a blue moon when a game like this comes along.

But hey, there's always an advantage to owning multiple systems eh.

@MaximusPrime

Yeah, i'll be preordering both too, both looks awesome. But Porject cars = sim mood, Driveclub = arcade mood. Is Driveclb arcade/sim or just arcade? I can;t imagine it being 100% arcade like PGR for example.

DriveClub is an unusual hybrid. They focus on incredible detail, in both cars and environment, and also vehicle damage, as well as a day/night cycle.

However, the gameplay is not sim, as far as I can tell. I think that is the vibe they are going for, and I can't wait for it.

"Edit - I will have more fun at 60 Fps at 1440p."

Haha, good for you man! The higher the number the more fun a game is, i had no idea about that. PGR4 was 720p? and 30fps on the 360 and i can guarantee you it will still be more fun now than many new racing games.

Fun depends on the game itself primarily. If a game isn't fun, making the res and framerate higher won't help that.

Can't say im surprised by your comment, though. Typical PC elitist snob response.

As for racing games, I just want a new Burnout...
Lukas_Japonicus  +   196d ago
@HORSE

"Apparently a good number of PS4 fans have the same mindset, going by all the "PS4 is more powerful" talk, and how apparently it results in multiplats someone being better games to plays"

He was specifically talking about FUN. When ive heard people talking about the PS4's multiplats, i never once saw someone say that the increased power would make them more fun, just look better. So i don't see how your comparison is relevant here.

For example, someone playing BF4 on the X1 at 720p is still going to have as much fun as someone playing at 900p on the PS4 or 1080p+ on the PC. Whereas the increased resolution of the PS4 and PC versions will make the game LOOK better, that's just fact.

If he said "this game will look better at 1440p @60fps", i wouldn't have responded. But to say it's going to more fun is silly.

H0RSE  +   196d ago
You're arguing semantics... Yes, there are those who specifically point out how one will look better than another, but the overall mindset was that one game will *BE* a better game to play due to higher resolution and/or framerate.

I understand context and "reading between the lines." A person can look at a number of comments form the PS4 camp on this issue, and clearly see that are implying that game overall is going to be a better game (including fun) based off nothing more than framerate and resolution.

Don't talk to me like I'm completely making this s*** up. Like the intent of the community was always very specific in its meaning, that games will merely look better, not be better games...

Besides, even if their comments were targeted specifically at the visual quality of the games, their comments were still belittling and childish towards the xbox community - kinda like those "PC elitist snobs" you mentioned, so I don't really know what you're trying to justify?

"Oh no, Horse, you're completely wrong. They weren't being a'holes in that aspect, they were being a'holes in this totally other aspect - you're argument is completely irrelevant..."
Lukas_Japonicus  +   196d ago
"I understand context and "reading between the lines." "

I don't think you do understand context, because his comment and my reply was strictly about FUN, then you proceed to spout 5 paragraphs of off topic nonsense and assumptions about PS fanboy mindsets lol.

"but the overall mindset was that one game will *BE* a better game to play due to higher resolution and/or framerate"

I agree, but that's not what we are talking about here, we are talking about whether or not higher numbers = more fun which in my opinion, isn't always true. You can carry on making the points you are making, but it will be a one man debate.

--

"He was specifically talking about FUN. When ive heard people talking about the PS4's multiplats, i never once saw someone say that the increased power would make them more fun, just look better. So i don't see how your comparison is relevant here."

You are tying to argue specifics, yet use non-specific comments by the community as your guide. You say you never heard people specifically exclaim that better graphics makes a game more fun, yet they never exclaimed that they didn't either. It was just a bunch of rhetoric about how the games will be "better" on PS4 - a purposely vague statement, to infer anything from purely cosmetics, to actual gameplay and overall enjoyment. Somehow you interpreted those comments to to mean specifically one thing, conveniently, the one thing that supports your argument...

The truth is that Sony proponents were having a field day gloating about the PS4's "superior hardware" and the announcements that many games were going to perform or look better on PS4 compared to X1. They had no concern for specifics - they were taking every thing they could to "one up" xbox, which is why I posted my original comment, because I found it rather ironic how you could state something like this:

"Haha, good for you man! The higher the number the more fun a game is, i had no idea about that. PGR4 was 720p? and 30fps on the 360 and i can guarantee you it will still be more fun now than many new racing games."

- in the wake of this very mindset taking place daily within the "console war." Like you were completely oblivious to this eerily similar behavior happening. But you were able to sidestep me pointing this out by injecting your, "they were taking about visuals only, not how fun game would be," defense, when largely, the community made no such effort to differentiate between the 2.

The cars are really pretty, but the work on the environment isn't all that great. The start of that track is quite pretty but then the rest of it is just boring ugly trees.
sorane  +   196d ago
It's based on real life so if the real life track has boring trees so will the game. If you want tornadoes or mountains that spit out dragons in the background you'll have to go play arcade racers like nfs rivals or drive club.
Dmarc  +   196d ago
lmao
Im curious. What additional "work on the environment" needs to be done?
If you think the track needs to be more pretty how about you fly out to UK and put pretty little lights and glitter on the trees, and blow up some huge hello kitty balloons while your at it.

Graphic sluts just see "maxed out settings" and they come flocking with their judgmental goggles on.Doubt you even play racing sims.

In other words, it looks more like a video game, and there's nothing wrong with that. You seem to be talking more about aesthetics than graphics.

That being said, there is merit to what paperskies is saying. It's like when people refuse to watch black and white or dated movies because they "look old." They literally cannot enjoy the movie(s) based on this factor. Although we are hardly comparing black and white movies to HD film here, the same mindset applies. Hell, I'm sure some of you here can't back to play older games due to them looking too dated.

I run this pretty much maxed (avoiding extreme AA and filtering where you drop your fps to 30% of what it was for very little improvement) on a quad core i5 @4.2ghz and a 7970.

From my time so far I have found that the ps4 can deliver a very close graphical experience to my PC generally, maybe not quite on a par but its not a million miles away. Most likely with less but more stable (because its been hardware optimised) framerate. Anyway, all I am saying is judging from how other games compare when run on my pc setup and ps4 setup I have faith this will get very close to that kind of graphical finess on the ps4.

It is a shame about the AI at this stage as it stops me playing the AI alpha. Everything else (menus, tracks, cars, physics) is all there and fantastic. Once the AI is nailed down to not drive like a load of twats with a death wish this is going to shine. Might be a little simmy for the massess though.

Everything else? I find the handling atrocious at the moment when compared to Assetto Corsa or iRacing's ntmv5... Been like that for two years now so I don't hold any hope of them sorting it out.
BadlyPackedKeebab  +   196d ago
well... yes I just put that down to being too simmy for my skill level. From what you are saying maybe its not me! Its not final and being a dev myself I hate it when people pick at unfinished code when they rightly or wrongly have no idea whats on the roadmap for improvement so ill not say anything nasty about it yet.
Dmarc  +   196d ago
Have either of you guys played Shift 2?If so, how do the physics compare? If they are still similar then, dont expect much improvement in the physics, because they shouldve been some what better by the time they started working on the game.
Si-Fly  +   196d ago
That's the trouble though, as a kick starter you'd better have the basics right, and with a racing title that's the physics and handling. Slightly Mad have from the off set been focused on eye candy and with around 7 months of predicted programming left it's worrying.

Compare it to something like Assetto Corsa which is sorely lacking on features in its present Alpha state but is winning over fans with its exquisite handling model... By the way, you should get that downloaded :)
sizeofyou  +   196d ago
May be just me, I know - but I'm a little underwhelmed with it. Looks 'nice', 'smooth' but I was hoping for better on a PC platform. More incidental detail than the odd blur and leaf possibly. Damn the hype.
I'm sure it will be a fantastic game on all platforms (especially if IT does avoid micro transactions) but I'm interested to see the improvement in Forzas and GT's of this generation (in a year or so) and how they then shape up...

Hope they allow the hazy dash to be disabled. They are trying to force the visual that your eyes don't actually see when in a car at that speed.
Hope they also are able to get AI better then the GT6 AI.

Other then that I can't wait for this to come out.

Only at certain times, though, mostly in turns.

To be honest, I was kinda underwhelmed. I know it's a YouTube video, but it just didn't impress me much. Certainly didn't reach the mighty visuals the images display.
AndrewLB  +   196d ago
When starting into a turn in a real race car at no time are you looking anywhere near the apex. If you keep your eyes on the exit of the turn the whole way through, you'll hit the apex and carry a lot more speed. That's why the dash blurs out as they're going through a turn. Your focus should be well ahead of you.

So in the 3 years he been playing they still ain't got the AI sorted, man this game is gonna bomb, then he slags off PS4 racers by saying his will be the only racer on ps4!! Jesus I think driveclub will waste this game, and when GT does turn up this game will all but be forgotten. Yep shapping up nicely to be the diakatana of the racing sim world

H0RSE  +   196d ago
Driveclub could likely "waste" this game, due to the gameplay being more "mainstream." Project CARS is going for extreme simulation, while Driveclub will be more like Forza or GT.

And you're likely right that this game will be forgotten hen GT turns up, because it could be like a decade from now...
Orbilator  +   195d ago
GT is nothing like Forza, thank god. GT 7 prolouge will be out this year as will the new gt academy running on the new gt 7 engine. As for extreme simulation, well its got a long way to go, AI is still duff and the race didn't stop after pile up, debris vanishing, hmm all they need now is a rewind feature loool. Extreme simulation games will never be mainstream

Best looking driving game I've ever seen by far. You guys should of been there at CES it was playing on 3 4k display. It was INSANE. Even on a regular 1080p screen at 120hz the game was just so smooth and pretty. Usually the ground or the details beside the cars in racing games are meh but this one was more polished. I'm not into driving games but my buddy is and he was NUTS over this game. He had some kind of early acces to it and invited me to play on his 3 screens + seat setup he got, Still yet to try but I'm looking forward to the gaming night at this house for sure!

If they had been real life boring ugly trees they would have been less boring than these.
- Little variation.
- Very static (a flag, some papers but not much more moves)
- Far to many trees if reality based...

Actually I think they use trees to cheat, not having to render buildings at very varied distances...
