You’re Playing It Wrong: a cold, hard look at the so-called Humble Bundle

EDGE - Something as roundly admirable as the Humble Bundle is hard to make fun of. One of the best ways to keep your finger on the pulse of the online gaming marketplace, it delivers well-curated collections of new titles and underexposed gems, DRM-free and for multiple platforms. Users set their own mercilessly exploitative prices, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. Indie devs gain invaluable publicity and profits through sheer volume, forestalling suicide or starvation for a while longer. Rumour even has it that for every Humble Bundle sold, Jeff Rosen spends a minute singing Christmas carols to orphans in a soup kitchen. So, yeah, it’s hard to fault. But You’re Playing It Wrong loves a good challenge.

I thought they would make a good argument. They didn't.

It's Edge, so my expectations were not high.

This article has some interesting points, but more than anything it proves that you can't make fun of Humble Bundle without coming off as a little bit of a cheapskate.

Considering how much you're required to pay for these bundles combined with how you're supporting indies and charities alike by buying them, I'd say that "a little bit of a cheapskate" is kind of putting it lightly.

I am playing it right.
This year I got
Alan Wake and American Nightmare- $1

A bundle of 7 android games- $1

Risen, Risen 2, Sacred 2, Saints Row 2 and 3, Dead Island GOTY,
Metro 2033, and Sacred Citadel-$1

9 Good Indies- $1

4 Good Indies (probably adding more, it is going on now)- $1

Dead Space 1 and 3, Burnout Paradise Ultimate, Crysis 2, Medal of Honor, Mirrors Edge, C&C RA3 Uprising, Populous (2 copies of all those except DS3, Populous)- $1 (and someone gave me Sims 3 for free)

Batman AA and AC, Scribblenauts, Fear Trilogy, Guardians of Middle Earth, MK Kollection. LOTR War in the North- $5

SO many Telltale games/episodes I made a category called S***load of Telltale- $1

I finally played some great games I never got around to thanks to HumbleBundle and PC sales in general

This is the main reason why I haven't bought any ps4 games yet as the pricing in today's gaming market is just crazy.
Last gen at launch I bought 5 games but this gen pricing is silly so I just haven't really bothered.
I got killzone in a bundle deal that worked out at about £35 and then stuck to f2p and psplus except nba2k14 that I got for Christmas.
Devs need to look at this and realize people won't pay £50-£60 for games.
At say £30 they would probably sell quadruple.

Devs and publisher (though seems like only jelly console fanboys most of the time)may think this low price does not work, but I can tell you this if I would have gotten games like Dead Space, Darksiders ($4), and Batman for such a low price a couple months before the sequel I would have gotten the sequels day one. I got Dark SOuls and Witcher 2 for about $5 each and I will be getting both sequels the day they are released, which may not have happened otherwise.
