2014 is a big year for role-playing games across all platforms. RPG Slayer makes the case for a triumphant return to form for the genre we all love.
Also excited for Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD, FFX|X-2 HD, and Tales of Xillia 2.
Dark souls 2 Witcher 3 Dragon age X FFXV(hopefully)
The only thing that kept FFXV off this list was the lack of 2014 confirmation.
We NEED a year of the RPG. This gen needs to show a lot of these younger gamers that " hey games aren't just military FPS shooters ". I remember when 1/20 games released was an FPS...maybe Not it seems every 4th game is some random unneeded FPS game that is just a " checklist" game. We need more: * RPG's * Strategy/tactical RPGS * 3D Platformers * 3D Platoformer/adventure/collect- a-thons * New IP's...New IP's...New IP's.... * Every new IP or game or series or character is chance for history to be made, is chance to establish another well known character into our memories that we want to play as for decades to come. Last gen there was more wasted opportunity and potential than all other Era's/ Generations before.
true that more RPG'S
Completely Forgot about WildStar but that Art Style is amazing. They also forgot Bravely Default for 3DS which is released Feb. 7th and is really the game that kickstarts this whole " year of RPG" thing off. I'm hoping it does well, as I would love to see Bravely Second in 2015.
No mention of X? We RIOT!!!
*grabs garbage can* How come there's no X on those walls!?
Grabs a baby! Noooow they'll listeeen! X is going to be one of the best rpg's of this generation... I bought a Wii just so that i can play Xenoblade. Im 22 hours in and my god it is an amazing game... Its one of the best games of the 7th generation by far. Just a pity it werent that widely released :(
This is an excellent list, but perhaps they left out Persona 5?
Doubtful that P5 will come out this year, perhaps in Japan by the end of 2014. That's a maybe though. We'll see, hopefully I'm wrong and it does end up releasing before 2015! I'm too stoked for that game.
Well it's been confirmed that p5 will release at the end of the year in japan. I suppose it's gonna be early 2015 in the west, it always takes some time for them to localise games, like it did for Catherine and Dragon's Crown.
Already have FFX HD Vita paid off, Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMIX, I'll pay off soon enough and Lightning Returns Collector's Edition paid and done. Bring on the RPGs.
Western rpgs ftw. Can't wait to finish off the big rpg trilogies.
The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition only for me and i'm gonna keep my eyes on Lords of the fallen.
Consider looking into Pillars of Eternity as well!
@Dark11 Same here. Witcher 3 is the game I am looking forward to the most this year. Dragon Age, assuming it's everything i am hoping it will be, is a close second. Might grab South Park when the holiday Steam sale comes around.
RPGs are my favorite genre I am looking forward to witcher 3.
Just a month till LR.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII http://images.mmorpg.com/im...
Wont take much to beat last year
Honorable mentions go to Grim Dawn, Legend of Grimrock 2, Dead State, Lords of the Fallen, Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Child of Light. To my knowledge, FFXV and X have not been confirmed for 2014.
Don't know how I'm going to find time to play everything in 2014.
Dragon Age, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity and Witcher 3. Not to mention the expansion for Shadowrun. So much yes going on for me this year.
Dark Souls 2 will be my whole year of 2014... phfft jrpg's...lol there hasent been a decent jrpg since ff9(turn base ftw) SQUARE has been crap every since they merged with ENIX and started making button mashing games for kids like KINGDOM HEARTS...lol what a joke
FFX was also turn based u know & an amazing one with very deep & complex lvl up system that countless games copy since then in case u haven't try it yet buy the HD remaster we will get in about a month, FFX is my 2nd favorite FF after FFVII & guess what FFX is also the second most successful FF sales-wise after FFVII so if u play it & u didn't like it I must suggest u to give it another try because it's an amazing game & the last FF made from Square Soft that means the last "real" FF we got so yeah give it a try I can't imagine what is that u don't like about it.
terrible voice-overs...and too linear...and i didnt like the character design
@eyeDEVOUR About the VO I my self am the kind of guy that prefer to play JRPGs with the original Japanese voices & go to such lengths that I don't buy a JRPG w/o dual audio but this is something I decide to do after PS2 because on PS3 there is plenty of space on a BD & the only excuse companies can use to not included dual audio for those who prefer the original voices is because they want to save the money & that's not acceptable for me, but I must say that I like the voice of Yuna & Auron they r very good & can't find any negative about those 2 chars. As for char design what's the prob about it? u like FFIX with all those strange wacky chars & u have prob with the design of Yuna, Auron or Lulu? then u must hate anything realistic & cool don't know what else to think, & last about linearity yes it is that way but the story progress perfectly & although linear there is plenty of exploration for u to do the game is massive full of secret for u to discover.
Dude I need some RPGs like a druggie needs crack. I want one with a fully realized world like fallout. Then I want a few JRPGs with heart tugging stories and some fun ones from one of NIS America's companies.
