Gameplayer are reporting that Sony is not going to renew its Formula One license and that there are a host of other distributors eyeing the prize.
EA,UBISOFT,CODEMASTERS getting this license= FAIL.
Polyphony Digital or the Forza dudes taking it on... we'd only get one game every decade though
EA has released great F1 games in the past. I don't understand your reasoning.
EA 'used' to create a lot of great games...its within the past few years that they have gone to complete shat...
Its the management. EA's number 1 priority is to make the most money with the least resources. As long as they have key games like madden, fifa, need for speed and a bunch of others giving them a million a yr that will NEVER change
You guys have clearly not played Boom Blox.
The best thing that could happen to F1 is for a decent company/publisher to get the licence, Sony has done nothing but produce mediocre F1 titles over the years that have not done the sport any justice at all. Give it to a real dev studio and a real publisher (like Turn 10, Blimey Games or Bizarre Creations) and see what amazing things will be done with F1 Hell, the TOCA team at codies would do a better job than Sony ever could
Polyphony earned rights to all the cars and tracks for GT5 you idiot...thats why Sony is letting it go...GT5 will have it all in there, plus everything else any racing fan could dream of... and this is old news...its almost confirmed that EA is buying it up...after seeing the awesomeness that was Nascar 08 (not that Nascar does anything but suck anyway...just making a point of how much EA sucks recently too), I am sure they can do a better job than F1 2006...one of the best racing sims to date... you are way too much of a douche to know anything about F1...don't ever speak of it again...
I would much prefer SCE Studio Liverpool concentrate on Wipeout instead of F1. GT5 kind of already covers F1 tracks and some of its cars, so there's little point in making another game just for it. And by Bizarre Creations do you mean the one Activision recently acquired and "announced that PGR4 will be the last game produced for Microsoft"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
I don't really care who picks up the license. I'm a huge F1 fan, so as long as the game turns out great, I'll be happy.
...the game is faithful to the real sport.. i'm happy. I'd hate to drift around Sepang/Monaco in an F1 Car. And turn speeds at 300km/h.
Good news for PS3/F1 fans, like you guys seem to be. You owe it to yourselfs to at least rent F1 Champ ED. Its very sim heavy if you want it to be (it's all adjustable) with a top notch physics system and a fantastic sense of speed with great motion blur effects and lighting. Also the career mode rocks. If you wanna. *shrugs*
Yup, I got it, and enjoy it.
Wasn't that one of the best selling games in EU at one point? I wouldn't drop it just yet if I were Sony...
"The best thing that could happen to F1 is for a decent company/publisher to get the licence, Sony has done nothing but produce mediocre F1 titles over the years that have not done the sport any justice at all." Yeah, unlike those "indecent" company/publishers. Surely Microsoft must be decent compared to Sony. Oh wait. "Give it to a real dev studio and a real publisher (like Turn 10, Blimey Games or Bizarre Creations) and see what amazing things will be done with F1" Yeah, so "real" gamers can play it I assume, right? Ah, the Xbot mind at its worst... I have a better idea: Polyphony Digital. They completely own anything on the realistic car simulation market. At least I'm not making up anything. "Hell, the TOCA team at codies would do a better job than Sony ever could " Said Microzhuk
sony could drop it and just add f1 racing in GT5.why make another game when you could just add tracks, cars, etc.,to one of the best racing games out there? we all saw how an f1 car would look and drive if you can afford it in prologue.they could license only what they need.if not, just make cars that look like f1.just like RUFF looks like porche. but we'll see............ megaton...............
I'm guessing the amount of revenue the game generated wasn't enough to cover the cost of development.
Read the article carefully. It has nothing to do with production costs. It's about the licensing price that the F1 chief is asking for. The previous license that was from 2003-2007 cost $200 million. The new license price they are asking for more.
I only hope EA not to buy exclusivity license. They had some great LOOKIN F1 games, but sh#t drivin´. Studio Liverpool is totaly O.K., and i only care what is game going to be like, not who is makin´it. Maybe is for best that no one has exclusivity, as until 2003. EA would have graphics, and codies driving model.
I would say if anybody gets this license, I hope it's Codemasters. If it goes to EA, then expect a crappy PS3 port. If it goes to Ubisoft, expect a delay. The PS3 F1 CE was great, except that it was just too technical for anybody to get in to.
But I'd love to see Codemasters grab it, although they're probably too busy with GRiD. So my vote is for the Forza boys Turn10, which means Microsoft would purchase the license. I love my racing games, but is there really that big a market for F1?
I would not like to see F1 game exclusive on one platform, allthough i am planning to buy PS3, i would like to see cross platform online racing. PCvsX360vsPS3. STOP FANBOYISM! GAME ON!
With PS3 looking like the dominant system in Europe they'd be losing a good exclusive audience.
needs a dedicated dev studio to make the game
I hope it's not EA cuz they were bad at console F1 games
Need for Speed: F1 Edition... Please, if anybody buys up the rights, please be Code Masters or Polyphony.
Porshe Unleashed was awesome, Imagince a F1 unleashed...that does sound fun if will done.
Polyphony? No way, they have no time to do that. We still ARE waiting GT portable. And, with no intention to argue, you guys who think EA had great F1 games and Sony´s F1 is unrealistic, you have absolutely no clue of racing simulations. Only thing that was bothering me in F1 games from studio Liverpool were bugs and glitches. I have a friend who has past over 20000 km only in races in F106, not to mention other F1 titles back from PsOne. And he is driving with all asists off, manual gearing, hard level and game is still bit too easy to him. And i tried all these games incl. GP4 on PC and GTR 2 F1 mode, only GP4 is a match to Sony´s F1. So, if Micro prose would make new F1 game, is O.K. to me, but please on all platforms. Dont want to pay 2000 $ for a new PC to run one game.
Polyphony´s F1 game would be great for sure, but F1 titles need to come out every year, not every five. Only option is to download update for every new season with minimum changes in game itself. Daydream, huh? Hope to get some decent F1 game soon, meanwhile playing F106. On PS2.
