Why people don't get this?
Cameras, motion control's and other kind of gimmicks only work righ for silly features.

Like a mic works fine for chatting and maybe some commands, a camera works fine for video chat, taking a picture for a 3d model character in a game or silly useless games made for casuals. This will inly work for few games the ones that are in fp view and it will only be a gimmick. i did enjoynthe 3d gimmick but it's just that a gimmick.

The Rift is a game changer. It is no mere gimmick.

wannabe gamer1778d ago

oculus isnt a gimmick, you must not have looked into it very much. its the closest thing to VR yet and they keep making it better and better

starchild1778d ago

I've had the chance to use the dev unit on several occasions and I would pay good money for a consumer version of THAT, let alone the much improved versions they have developed since then. Trust me, its no gimmick. Its probably the most exciting thing in gaming on the horizon.

webeblazing1778d ago

its a gimmick because it dont have a sony logo /s

Retroman1778d ago (Edited 1778d ago )

this so call gimmick as you say would be much cheaper than Sony VR glasses 999.00 with sony logo.

check out their website for price.

NeoTribe1778d ago

Sonys has a vr headset on the way. Sonys will also probably be superior.

CapsLocke1778d ago

Everyone saying it's a gimmick had a full 180 after they actually tried it.

Smoey1778d ago

I have one (dev kit) and it's amazing. I was skeptical and thought it would be like things in the past but, my god, it's amazing. The UDK demo alone you could spend hours on shooting and jumping around.

Frisky1778d ago

There is a start to every thing, Oculus Rift might not be the perfect inception for virtual Reality but once we're in the ring, better things will keep coming.

Lol at the disagree haha
Today at the Sony conference prove my point is a gimmick.. it does enhance the experience in it own way just like 3d does but nothing more than a gimmick.

maybe If I say gimmick 3 times in a row.. it may not become a gimmick lol let me try it.

Gimmick gimmick give me .. is Brittney b#@[email protected]# hahaha

Its like reliving the 80's cellphone again. You know it's going to be successful. It just needs time to make it more practical.

First thing that popped in my head when i saw Oculus rift.

Perjoss1778d ago

Eventually VR will be a type of contact lens. Until then I'm quite happy to 'walk around with a huge phone'.

CaulkSlap1778d ago (Edited 1778d ago )

The VR crap that's been around for decades is the 80s cell phone. Seen presentations that looked cool for years and years but it was all overpriced and/or crap. Oculus finally does VR right at a reasonable price. It's more like the Nokia brick phones of the early 2000s.

Next will hopefully be virtual reality MMORPGs.

Volkama1778d ago (Edited 1778d ago )

They kinda come with the territory, the Rift isn't genre-locked :)

You can already play existing MMORPGs on the dev kits, though I can't vouch for the quality.

PurpHerbison1778d ago

I have always wanted Virtual Reality but I feel there won't be any software to do it justice. My mind tends to want an experience similar to .Hack, minus the getting stuck in the game world part. That sort of experience is a long ways off.
