Thank You for an Epic 2013, 3 Million Xbox one's Sold

XBOX WIRE - Together, we ushered in a new era of games and entertainment with Xbox One. Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013. It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November. Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible. (Microsoft, Xbox One)

Impressive numbers. Well done Microsoft.
GarrusVakarian  +   691d ago
Ill just copy and paste my comment from the duplicate article.

"The gaming industry is in decline" People said.

"Mobile gaming will take over" People said.

Congrats MS, 3 million units sold in such a short time is damn impressive. Sales from both console just prove that gaming has never been better off as it is now.

I also note they are still holding onto the "fastest selling console in November" line. Picking and choosing dates to suit their argument is a little sketchy. No but seriously, well done MS.

MS sold through to consumers over 3 million consoles with only 13 markets. That is pretty damn good!
JohnnyBadfinger  +   690d ago
I just picked up a Xbox one yesterday and at the same time asked when they are getting more ps4s in an all the guy in dispatch could say was "No idea, if not next week probably end of January an most are already spoken for."

I walked in a got the second last Xbox one they had left in stock but they are getting another 20 on Wednesday so it's a none issue.
Eonjay  +   691d ago
This means that the VGCharts are spot on.
JarqueMcLark  +   691d ago
As usual.
jackanderson1985  +   691d ago
They're off by at least 100k if not more as MS didn't give the exact number of consoles sold and vg has it at less than 2.9mil
B1663r  +   691d ago
Fakechartz stealth updated moments after this announcement.

In anything this confirms that are fake.
DiRtY  +   691d ago
3 million for a $500 console is pretty good.
Well done.

Now give me Titanfall, Quantum Break and Halo 5.
xDHAV0K24x  +   690d ago
Too expensive they said...
come_bom  +   691d ago
In all honesty i did not expect Microsoft to sell so many X1's in 2013, specially for a 500€ console. Congrats.

Let's see if they can continue with those sales in 2014.
_QQ_  +   691d ago
goes to show how bad vg chart'z numbers are, According to vg sony had a 1 mil lead at 3.4 mil, guess thats dead wrong, unless of course the PS4 sales are off too. i wonder if this article will get approved.
KillerByte23  +   691d ago
but remember PS4 is out in 48 countries so obviously it will sell more when more people can get there hands on one
Cueil  +   691d ago
only if they are producing more and from what I understand that simply not the case... the local Walmart has sold out of three stocks of Xbox Ones in the time only got a single shipment of PS4s. Sony is making around the same amount off consoles a week, but they've stretched themselves... it lets them get nearly 100 percent sell through, but creates bottle neck in the US... that's not good for Sony's long term strategy. If Microsoft can get the kind of dominance again it's not good for Sony.
jackanderson1985  +   691d ago
no reason it wouldn't be approve (minus people reporting errors and said errors being uncorrected).

and vg numbers have always been wrong, nobody puts any faith in them as they basically make them up based on what they hear rather than hard data
Godmars290  +   691d ago
if you're doubting one set of data how are you accepting another from the same source?

Either numbers are right on one side or they're wrong on both.
MidnytRain  +   691d ago
A video with Pachter said VG isn't reliable until a game has been out a while, then their numbers are more accurate.
JarqueMcLark  +   691d ago
Huh? VGChartz says 2.9m (as of December 28th) for Xbox One - it is spot on.
Cueil  +   691d ago
They adjust when new numbers come in
MasterCornholio  +   691d ago
Right now VG says that 2.9 million Xbox Ones have been sold while 3.8 million PS4s have been sold. I dont know where your getting 3.4 million from.
Cueil  +   691d ago
I understand the adjusting of the Xbox numbers, but was there some reason they adjusted the PS4 numbers the same?
B1663r  +   691d ago
It will get approved, but the n4g heat ratings are fake. So it will quickly fall off the front page in spite of being huge news.
Bolts-N-Rays1109  +   691d ago
Wow, 3 million consoles in 40 days is pretty impressive, for a console with so much controversy and hate leading up to launch. I'll be getting mine in 2 months!
mcstorm  +   691d ago
I agree and I hope you enjoy it as much as I am enjoying mine.
Bolts-N-Rays1109  +   691d ago
I can't wait for mine. I was playing my friends XB1 all winter break.
Kayant  +   691d ago
Wait! It's only been that long.... Damn MS & Sony sure are doing well. This is great for the console industry.
bunt-custardly  +   691d ago
Now compare to VGcharts to see the discrepancy or accuracy in their numbers. As of the 21st. VGcharts suggests some 2,588,000 worldwide sales of the Xbox One.
jackanderson1985  +   691d ago
i do agree with you that vgchartz is usually skewed in their numbers but ur comparing 21 December data with 31 December data... of course there'd be differences
rdgneoz3  +   691d ago
The day after Christmas tends to be considered the 2nd biggest shopping day in the US next to Black Friday, since everyone has gift cards / cash from the day before.
JarqueMcLark  +   691d ago
The numbers have been updated on the front page - 2.94m as of December 28th so spot on really.
4logpc  +   691d ago
Good number. Glad to see such strong numbers.
Dehnus  +   691d ago
What does it matter really? A console only starts to take off when the price gets lower so it becomes a console for more people then just the early adaptors.

Outside of that, how do sales numbers increase my fun? I am still not quite understanding that one. Having plenty of good First Party and Third Party titles! That constitutes to fun :).
jackanderson1985  +   691d ago
well if Sony or MS had only sold like 100k units by christmas then they'd have probably called it a dead rubber, discontinued it and moved onto something else.

sales matter to the companies themselves as if it's not selling it's not worth doing.

it matters to fanboys cuz it lets them shout some more

matters to the rest cuz more buyers equals a higher chance (not guaranteed) of a long support by it's brand
Naga  +   691d ago
Having a large install base means a higher likelihood of high-profile titles coming to your console.

Developers will invest where they will likely see the greatest return.
Dehnus  +   691d ago
Sony and MS also have inhouse studios. Originally consoles where made to provide a cheap and affordable station for your software to appear on. Third party was just icing on the cake.

So really tell me again why sales matter so much when both Sony and MS do not have the titles yet to really pus for anything. Not saying they won't have them in the future, but as things are now they really aren't made for "fun" more for "bragging rights".
Mustang300C2012  +   691d ago

What data are you looking at? Third party games continue and have mostly sold better than exclusives. So yeah sales do matter because if they didn't we would see full support for games on the Vita and Wii U. Don't you think? A lot of this is common sense.

That's really impressive for an $500 console, especially just selling in 13 markets. Glad both are doing terrific.
Stryfeno2  +   691d ago
But I thought N4G said the Xbox was doomed?
4logpc  +   691d ago
N4G says a lot of things that make no sense.
KNWS  +   691d ago
To be honest, i can only see it getting better, for Microsoft.

Out of the 40 friends who i have on my x box 360 account.

Only 4 have got next consoles yet. 3 got the xb1 and 1 got the ps4. The rest still are playing x box 360
insomnium2  +   691d ago
Nah I'm pretty sure most said that XBone is crap and that does not change no matter how many gazillion sales it gets.

The console was doomed with the DRM stuff still implemented. And since we are not stupid we know that the situation changed drastically when MS made the changes they made.

As a core gamer it was pathetic as hell for MS to try and pull something like that but as we all know the core gamer is nothing but a drop in the bucket in the total sales of a console. So it doesn't matter how s*it MS is on this site there is a big world out there with lots of casual gamers for them to feed off of. Nothing we can do about it no matter how sad it is.

Kind of explains why they're is queues for servers on Battlefield 4 on xb1.

I've seen queues with 60 people trying to get on just one server.

Seems 1 million more people bought an xb1 over December.
Convas  +   691d ago
I'm almost at my savings goal for my Xbox One. Can't wait, here's hoping MS continues to rebound from the terrible unveiling and make the Xbone a console to be reckoned with.
truefan1  +   691d ago
This is fantastic news, more gamers to play with now and especially when Titanfall is released in March.
christocolus  +   691d ago
Wow...congrats to microsoft for a job well done. . really glad the xbx one is going smoothly after all the hurdles it had to go through (from announcement till launch) .

Im guessing that by the time titanfall is out there should be more than 5million consoles and by the time halo5 is out there should be almost 10million consoles or more.

Both games(halo5 and titanfall) are probably going to push the systems sales much farther.i also expect watchdogs,d4, project spark and destiny to push sales a bit. Ms really needs to celebrate this,it hasnt been easy for them at all.

Wow I'm in shock there is no negative comments from Sonyfans. Well done to the N4G community. :-D
whoyouwit04  +   691d ago
And sony fan boys were saying the PS4 is destroying the Xbox one in sells. The fact that Microsoft managed to do this in only 13 countries with all the bad press, and $500 price tag is simply impressive plain and simple. Like I said this neck and neck race is simply the best thing for the industry, And I truly hope Nintendo will also return as a major competitor soon. People need to realize when the industry is like that that is the only time we gamers truly win; not when one company is dominating in sells.

To be fair Sony hasn't released any numbers in a long while...Probably waiting for the 5 millions mark
Mustang300C2012  +   691d ago
What? tomorrow or next week? This doesn't even make any sense.
Stryfeno2  +   691d ago
I still haven't purchased mine, but come Feb I will be jumping in. Good job MS.
imt558  +   691d ago
Great numbers! Kudos for MS!

Well, if VGchartz missed Xbone numbers for a 500k ( a few days ago ), then PS4 is close to 4 million.

Tripe_Down  +   691d ago
so that means that PS4 has sold over 5 million units ..
B1663r  +   691d ago
According to metrics, anything less than 9 million PS4's at this point and the PS4 should be considered a failure. The PS4 was supposed out outsell the X1 3:1.
extermin8or  +   691d ago
even if that were true sony's can't mnufacture that many this fast so it'd be pretty irrelevant. Besides pretty sure that was a figure for a single week and tthe prediction prior to the 180's MS made..

"selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide"

I chuckled at this. 8)

Wow VG has been spot on with these numbers. Can't wait to see what Sonys are at CES.

Fantastic news Microsoft. What a turn around from the negative news and bad press. Well done. A stellar effort and kudos to you.

And, of course, Kudos to all those that supported MS as well, because without fans, nothing happens.
