AMD Tablet - Hybrid Gaming Tablet, PC and Console

HardwarePal : AMD seems to want to get in all industries possible other than graphic cards and processors, they are looking to go mobile now. AMD Tablet anyone ? You have probably heard of the Razor Edge Pro, the gaming tablet thats a console, tablet and pc all in one. (AMD, Mobile, PC, Tech)

I hope it's priced well.

Razer was $1000, I think I saw it for $700 - $800 on BF. These "gaming tablet" just aren't worth the asking price. For the same price you can get a SIGNIFICANT better gaming laptop if mobile gaming is your thing.

On top of that most of these mobile tablets have been huge underperformers, with high heat. The best GPU AMD can hope to put in there are the 7500m / 7600m series GPU's which offer less than 20w of performance.

The best combo I see is:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3000 + HD 7690m (40w) 50% XBO (696 GFLOPS)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3000 + HD 7570m (33w) Wii U+ (432 GFLOPS)

Even then 40w is on the higher end of TPD for a mobile device like a tablet, and puts it just barley under the Razer (which gets uncomfortably warm). The Wii U+ version would be the better route to go, cause less heat and performing equal to the Razer at a fraction of the cost (should be around $500 - $600 selling price).

True gaming tablets are good in theory, but never has their execution been nailed.

Honestly Tegra is the only good option out there, since it's performance is good enough, it's power draw is a mere 5W, and it's basically an APU. As Tegra evolves it's the only real viable option for true high-end tablet gaming as long as it's price remains reasonable ($199 - $299 Tegra 4, so $299 - $399 Tegra 5).

They could become a decent OPTION for some people.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it may be physically impossible for conventional tablets as we know them to even approach the power of a laptop at this point.
People who can't stand carrying anything around that is over a few pounds or a couple kilograms can choose to make that compromise, but I don't mind carrying around the extra weight(a laptop) because as far as I'm concerned it's easily more than worth it.
Either way, I don't see why multiple technologies shouldn't coexist peacefully.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but it may be physically impossible for conventional tablets as we know them to even approach the power of a laptop at this point."

That's why I listed the wattage and TPD for those mock tablets specs. The more power that's needed to run the components the more heat is cause and the quicker battery life is drained. Theoretically it's possible to make a high end tablet that performs on par with high end PC's, but no battery could boot that let alone run it. You can plug into a wall with a power supply, but that removes the portability factor and you basically have a heating pad in your hands.

I agree with the concept of a gaming tablet, it's just not a logical technology at this point. As I said performance wise you can get PS360U performance for about $500 (hopefully less with Tegra 5) with average battery life (3 - 5 hours), and acceptable heat (Tegra 5, should offer significantly reduced heating).

But again you can get an AMD A-10 gaming laptop for $500. It's nice that technology is there, but realistically it's not functional unless you just want to have a tablet.

Where do I put the Syrup?

But seriously, this looks awesome and sleek compared to the Razer one.

TBH I was a lot more attracted to Razer's 14" Blade than it's edge...until i found out that both had crap screen quality...

You pay 1000+ to get a horrible screen...on a device meant for gaming...it boggles the mind!
