ITF Gaming’s Best of 2013: Best Multiplayer

Bracken Lee-Rudolph from ITF Gaming writes: The great appeal of multiplayer games is that they allow players to take shots at, score goals against, or humiliate other people instead of emotionless AI drones. The fact that the features have expanded to such an extent that some games allow you to crush the buildings your enemies sit in, or call missile strikes on them shows their massive popularity. Below, you’ll find the games that our writers were able to kill the most people in. (Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Rising Storm is the best multiplayer shooter of last year. Gamers really need to get off the BF/COD train.

Why though? I see no problem with people enjoying Call of Duty or Battlefield.

Because- especially with Call of Duty- they're rewarding mediocrity.

When was the last time Call of Duty really did something that was a massive step up from the last entry? Hell, when was the last time it didn't feel like you were playing the same Call of Duty with some different maps and guns?

Well, it's not so much that there's a problem with enjoying them. It's just that they see so much success, while games that are just as worthy- if not moreso- languish.

How do you decide whether a game is worthy - especially for Call of Duty, where millions enjoy the meta changes every year? Personally, I don't feel that Black Ops II for example, while similar to Ghosts, was the same game with reskinned guns and different maps - they play differently, nowhere more so than within the multiplayer infrastructure.

All that is moot though, it's a wildly popular series because people enjoy it - is that not what makes a game worthy? Likewise for Battlefield.

There's a point where saying games are better than Call of Duty, and outside of multiplayer, I'd agree. However, it's another thing to say they're rewarding mediocrity - especially when Activision's series always has one of the most stable and continuously developing multiplayer aspects consistently.

Battlefield has the best multiplayer so stop hating.
