Naughty Dog's PS4 Engine is "Just Getting" Up and Running for Uncharted, TLOU PS4: "We Will See"

Following the huge success of The Last of Us critically and commercially earlier this year, many people were wondering if Naughty Dog’s blockbuster would eventually make it to PS4. Sadly, that possibility was quickly shot down by Community Strategist Eric Monacelli who said, “We have no plans to do that,” back in October.

Uncharted PS4... headblown!!!!!!!!
MeknSence  +   575d ago
If I were Sony, I would make sure that they have anything they want. These guys are the frigging best. Take your time ND and make your games, I can wait, but still can't.
AngelicIceDiamond  +   575d ago
Oh man please don't tease Naughty Dog. You Naughty, Naughty, Naughty Dog lol.

I know its early to say but bring on E3 2014 I'm hyped. Though I'm secretly hoping for another February event from Sony.

To get us up to date on what they're latest projects are. Tease a few Ip's similar to what they did earlier this year.

I know I'm dreaming but one can hope.

I can't wait to see what they can do with the PS4. They are an amazing game developing company.
reef1017  +   575d ago
So no 2014 Uncharted?

As good as that would be I'm not expecting it.

This saddens me.
Mosiac77  +   574d ago
Somebody please start a petition. I'm sure they will listen.
danny818  +   575d ago
it saddens me but a lot of good games will be out next year, I really don't want naughty dogs next game to be overshadowed by big title games or multiplats

Somethings not right here, either the team who made Uncharted 3 moved straight onto Uncharted 4 in 2011 hence they would be at a stage where the ps4 engine is much further along that 'just getting up and running'. OR the majority of last of us team started work on Uncharted 4 after the last of us (with some doing TLOU DLC) which would indicate the the Uncharted 3 team are working on something completely different.... Hmmm interesting
gunnerforlife  +   575d ago
the team that made uncharted two, made the last of us, and theyre the ones that will make uncharted 4, thats the best team at naughty dog, I do not know what the team that made uncharted 3 are doing ( it explains why uncharted 3 was not as good as 2, because they had a different team working on it), unless theyve combined teams to make uncharted 4 , because remember naughty dog are two teams now. the team that made TLOU and uncharted 3 are two different teams all together.
ZoyosJD  +   574d ago
The "teams" are much more intricately intertwined than is suggested by the "team 1, team 2" notation.

TLOU had the longest development period of any of their projects launching on fathers day in June as opposed to the traditional November time frame.

Not to mention the games are being more and more heavily supported post launch with DLC to the extent that TLOU is getting additional single player content.

I would love a surprise as much as anyone, but they simply have way too much on their agenda to possibly keep up with this game per year switching teams for release schedule that is being suggested.
Wedge19  +   575d ago
In terms of one of the developers that I can't wait to see take full advantage of the PS4, Naughty Dog is very, very high on that list. While I'm excited for a new Uncharted, I can't wait to see what kind of new IP they bring to the table.
staticdash22  +   575d ago
This probably confirms that the order 1886 is Sony's holiday 2014 system seller. This and Destiny are sure to move units, more so destiny because of the exclusive hardware bundles, console designs and exclusive/early DLC.

Last I read was NG were rehashing the TLOU engine for PS4, and were not building from scratch. If they have back tracked on this, then it's even more worth waiting for. Not that TLOU engine was sub standard or anything...
Insomnia_84  +   575d ago
New engine for PS4???? HOLY FKC!!! Minds will be blown! I'm already excited for this!
staticdash22  +   575d ago
Its the same engine, just upgraded for PS4
snookiegamer  +   575d ago
It's entirely possible TLOU engine code was written to be upscaled, as seems to be the case these days.
Visiblemarc  +   575d ago
Corrinne Yu was not acquired for no reason. Her mastery of graphics programming will be reflected on the engine, new or heavily modified. That said ND are already masters of visuals...so...prepare for opening-of-the-Ark-of-the-Cove nant style reactions.
webeblazing  +   575d ago
so are they saying they showed a teaser trailer for a game when the havent even finished the engine, let alone getting started on making the game? WHAT? what was the point in that
AaronMK  +   574d ago
Of course, it helps, but you don't have to have the engine finished to get started on a game. It should not prevent story development, concept art, the cultural research they do, creation of assets, etc. These will help develop their vision for the game, and the rendering techniques that they feel will best represent that vision may very well be guiding the development of the engine itself.

Of course, you would have to ask ND to elaborate on their statement and their development processes, but I would not be quick to draw conclusions on the fact that they are "just getting [their] Naughty Dog engine up and running on PS4", which itself can mean many different things.
pabadamus1  +   575d ago
A next gen port would definitely benefit those who missed it on PS3. I personally would rather see those resources go into even more new IPs or new stories to be told in the world of TLOU. I am even more interested to see if ND can innovate within the Uncharted universe. I really do not want to see an iteration of the exact same mechanics we have seen through U3.
ZodTheRipper  +   575d ago
Porting it to PS4 is much easier and faster than creating a new IP so I'd rather say make those new Playstation users happy by porting this masterpiece to next gen and create some easy income in the process. I'd definately buy it again as a "Ultimate Edition" in 1080p/60fps and all PS3 DLC's included.
jmac53  +   575d ago
Agreed, I missed out on the PS3 and would definitely buy it on PS4. As a 360 owner this was the one game I was insanely jealous of.
ginsunuva  +   575d ago
There's only like 10 people who actually want a port of it.

Anyone who wants the game already bought it.

UC4 may take a while to develop, I would kill to have a remastered TLOU for PS4, I've sold all my PS3 games apart from two, MGS4 & TLOU.
Letthewookiewin  +   575d ago
Just played through TLOU again. Better the second time.
Blinding_Solo  +   574d ago
A second time???? I have played the campaign 7 times now lol
Letthewookiewin  +   574d ago
Haha ya I know I'm lagging!
OttoniBastos  +   575d ago
Now do you guys imagine TLOU(game of the year edition) running at 1080p/60fps with better AA and High-res Textures?!
ambientFLIER  +   574d ago
How about actual real-time lighting. Moving clouds that actually cover the sun and cast shadows, instead of disappearing behind the sun.
DigitalRaptor  +   575d ago
What the heck Naughty Dog?

Uncharted 3 has been completed for more than 2 years now. Sony's premier studio must've had their hands on PS4 tools for years. How can the engine be only "just getting" up and running? Maybe it's timed with engine programmer Corrinne Yu joining? Damn it.

I guess that counts out Uncharted "4" for 2014.

I think most of us were assuming 2015. Seems as though The Order will be Sony's main event in fall 2014.
Relientk77  +   574d ago
It'll be worth the wait Uncharted 4 in 2015

Austin48  +   574d ago
I'm hoping for the last of us on ps4 but I also want the last of us sequal on ps4 as well
curtis92  +   574d ago
I thought they were using the same engine on ps4 they've been using on ps3? This sounds more like a new engine.
qzp  +   574d ago
tlou ps4 is just free money but ND is to talented to waste their time with a project like that, perhaps sony will give the port to another studio.
Hakoom  +   574d ago
prepare for eye melting soon
SlapHappyJesus  +   574d ago
They impressed with the PS3 tech.
They are going to impress with the PS4 tech.
ambientFLIER  +   574d ago
I don't much care for the Uncharted series, since some treasure hunter doesn't tug at my emotional strings. The Last of Us on the PS4, however...oh boy!
