Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Beats Zelda to the Top of Major Japanese Retailer’s Weekly Charts

Like every Monday the major Japanese retail and rental chain Tsutaya released its weekly sales charts, that are usually considered an interesting glimpse on what the Media Create charts will look like on Wednesday, since Tsutaya has a very large number of stores scattered across the whole country.

Surprised ALBW debut at no.2 considering that Zelda isn't that popular in Japan. Final fantasy at no. 1 is expected.

you know i was going to hop on vgchartz and prove japan was into zelda, but you're totally right. they sell pretty meh there. was it like metroid where the original was released on the famicom disc thing and thus didnt sell?
also props to FFX on vita making top 5. and also SM3DW for still keeping up in the top 10 a whole month later

mii-gamer942d ago

The funny thing is that I got so many dislikes for being honest. Only on N4G :P

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory943d ago (Edited 943d ago )

here we go again with dualshockers attempt to downplay Nintendo games sales.

They did the same with SM3DW and it stayed in Top 10 for weeks while Lightning Returns drop out quick.

But FFX is my third favorite FF after VIII and IV.
Just above IX and VI.

I be getting it for my Vita. I already have Zelda though.

Dualshockers is a bit inconsistent in there Tsutaya chart reports. They only report it when there is a Sony game ranking above a Nintendo game. Otherwise they just ignore them.

RPG_Lover943d ago

Actually its just this one writer.......the rest of dualshockers are decent people.

Hicken943d ago

"Waahhh! Dualshockers is hating on my beloved Nintendo!"

You guys seriously have the nerve to complain about other fanboys with the way you're always playing the victim? It's as if you don't seek out positive Nintendo news and just ignore the negatives, yourselves.

Theyellowflash30943d ago

Hicken, who said that?

I said they are inconsistent. We all know the Tsutaya charts are not the be all end all.

- Its not every store in Japan
- Doesn't count digital
- The Media Create and Famitsu ranks are almost always different.

However, as a journalist, if you report the charts one week, you need to report them all weeks. Not just when there is a Sony game ranking higher than the Nintendo game.

I'm not defending dualshockers, but i think you need to fix your post there. Here, i posted some tsutaya charts / news reported from dualshockers, complete with their original title:

- Almost Complete Nintendomination Appears in Major Japanese Retailer’s Weekly Sales Charts

- Pokémon and Grand Theft Auto V Still Dominate Japan on Major Retailer’s Weekly Sales Charts

- Tsutaya’s Yearly Charts Show Triumph of Monster Hunter and 3DS, PS3 Follows, No Wii U Games in Sight
http://www.dualshockers.com...

- Pikmin 3 is Helping the Wii U According to Major Japanese Retailer

Seriously, i don't know why you and your nintendo friends got oversensitive about some chartz. It's like...you treated it as the end of the world if nintendo games doesn't made to the top ten of tsutaya chartz.

It's not even a PlayStation vs Nintendo sales thing.

It's the Japanese gamers' way of teaching ScrewEnix a lesson they will never forget to not sell their souls to the devil and screw the once prestigious franchise forever.

The Japanese know better that Squaresoft is at their very best when they made FF X. They are just reminiscing the glory days of JRPGs that is why this remake is so well received.

stuna1943d ago (Edited 943d ago )

Or could it actually be that Zelda's ship has sailed? Istead of some conspiracy theory. Sure Zelda's a well known franchise, but people act like this game has to sell blockbuster numbers every time one is released! Which is warped thinking to begin with. haven't people heard of franchise fatigue before!? It happens to the best of them, and there is always something out there that can potentially take the focus away from certain games, if that wasn't the case why would certain titles hold off release when other big titles release? Simple to avoid watering down their sales.

stuna1942d ago

Why because you don't agree? doesn't mean I'm wrong, but to blind fanboys who believe Nintendo is just infailable of course I'm wrong.

Concertoine942d ago (Edited 942d ago )

The thing is its still second on the sales charts, when you're competing with final fantasy in japan you're not going anywhere soon. Also, after verifying on vgchartz, zelda has never been that big in japan.
It's like when people say "oh cod is dying" when ghosts failed to beat the black ops 2's sales records after like 4 straight years of beating their own record sales. That's still one of the best selling games this year.
no point in minimizing success because it didn't beat final fantasy (according to tetsuya)

This Final Fantasy remaster is gonna do well

Number 3 on the USA pre-orders list, beating Lightning Returns, Titanfall ect. According to VGchartz at least.

Weird how the Vita version sold less, I'll be getting the Vita version myself

STK026943d ago

There are less Vitas than PS3s sold, by a very large margin.

I'll be getting it on Vita myself, but it isn't very surprising to see the PS3 edition selling more.

NatureOfLogic943d ago

Well deserved. This is my favorite FF game. Hopefully Squareenix is paying attention.

RPG_Lover943d ago

Zelda will still outsell it
