Was 2013 a Good Year for Video Games?

2013 has been a big year for video games, with a lot of major releases and a bunch of 3DS games and generation 8 finally starting, but was 2013 a good year? (3DS, Dragon's Crown, Grand Theft Auto V, Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Next-Gen, PC, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, SimCity, Soul Sacrifice, Tearaway, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

We got ni no kuni, TLOU(GOTY), GTA V and Ps4. Yea it was a fantastic year especially for playstation gamers

you forgot Gran Turismo 6

It was a good year, in that it feels like gaming has finally become mainstream. It's not just for 15-40 y/o hobbyist guys anymore, everyone and their mother can game now. This will result in even a greater variety of games for both the PS4 and the X1.

Only downside to this is that it makes it hard to find a next-gen console :P

I think 2013 was a terrible year. Shattering older franchises with mediocre games, politically correct controversies, the usual DLC schemes and such.

2013 had it all, but 2014 seems to be much better. Time will tell if companies learned anything.

With The Last of Us, yes 2013 was best year for videogames !
Tontus  +   115d ago
Nope, 2010 was the best year imo.

God of War III, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Alan Wake, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5, Halo Reach, Bioshock 2, Bayonetta...

2013 was great though with The Last of Us, GTA V, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite but sadly God of War: Ascension, Gears of War: Judgment, Beyond Two Souls & Gran Turismo 6 were all disappointing.

Looking forward to 2014!

Dlc and microtransactions going rampant ruined it for me...

I couldn't agree more.
Since generally moving away from consoles and back to pc, I've discovered the joys of discounted games.
Loads and loads of discounted games. Game bundles. Some really quality AAA stuff going super cheap and amazing indie stuff that makes all efforts on PS and XB look utterly lame.

XB1 and PS4 will have to do soooooo much more to tempt me back to consoles.

I completely agree. The prices for games on XBL and PSN are atrocious.

Not to me .

waiting for 2014 I hope it will be better than 12/13 .

2011 still the best .

2011 the best year? No offense, but how long have you been gaming?

I know opinions and all, but it is almost inarguable that 1998 is the best single year in gaming.

I beat Tomb Raider, Ni No Kuni, TLOU,Brothers A Tale Of Two Sons, RYSE, And Resogun. I played GTAV and am currently playing Forza 5 , Halo Spartan Assault , DCUO , Warframe, and Blacklight Retrobution. It's been a good year. 2014 looks to trump 2013 with a lot of XB1 & PS4 games.

Oh I forgot about the Wii U games I played and beat, Zelda WWHD and Super Mario 3D world. And my vita & 3DS geez what a year when I look back.

It was an alright year, not the best year in gaming but not the worse either.

If you didn't enjoy 2013 you might want to ask yourself if gaming is the right hobby for you.

Yes

I'll say it was a good year. Certainly not great or fantastic but it was good. There was a couple gems here and there as well as a few diamonds in the rough but overall I'd say it was decent. One thing I didn't like was this shift to micro transactions. It really has no place on consoles when your already paying full price for a supposedly complete video game. leave that crap to 99 cent mobile games.

First half of the year was lame but then since E3 things kicked off first Xbox One and PS4 reveals, The Last of Us coming out on PS3 then GTA V, Steam OS and Steam Machine reveals and of course Xbox One and PS4 being released. I can't wait for what 2014 will bring in gaming.
Itachi83  +   115d ago
Yeah it does seem like 2013 was primarily a hardware year. Even all the way back to Feb when PS4 was announced it was all about hardware. There was a few great games that came out this year but mostly it was all about setting the stage for the next generation to come in. 2014 will be all about games.
Stoppokingme  +   115d ago
It was a horrible year for gaming, But it was a good year for sarcasm.
McScroggz  +   115d ago
As far as games go, 2013 was a fantastic year. It's hard to imagine how somebody would feel otherwise, but there are always those who are never pleased.
Dlacy13g  +   115d ago
There were some great games in 2013 but compared to prior years I think 2013 was a bit of a let down.
MadMen  +   115d ago
Eh it was ok, all the excitement happened in the last few months, so the year over all to me was blah, but went out well, thanks to GTA and new consoles.
Dmd  +   115d ago
2013 was one of the very best gaming year in a long while (for me at least)! Tomb Raider, FFXIV: ARR, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Bioshock Infinity, The Last of Us, Tales of Xillia, Ni no Kuni, GTAV, Metro: Last Light... man, this was a epic gaming year!
