I really hope the gameplay is better on part 2 & 3. I really hope Hope is not such a hopeless character on the next games. I'm forcing my way through 13 right now. It's ok but gameplay and Hope is really annoying. I hate Lightning about 60% less now. ^~^

The characters in XIII shine brightest when they're together. Character pairings that are polar opposites like Sazh and Vanille, or Hope and Snow work best to make the characters look their best; on their own, most of them are rather normal(except Sazh, he's awesome).

The lack of this is one of the reasons I don't think XIII-2 is as good: the characters don't have that dynamic difference playing around... because there's just Serah and Noel.

I excuse Hope... sorta. It's clear he was a mama's boy tossed into something way bigger than he could actually comprehend at the time, give his naivete. But he does, eventually, mature a bit.

The battle system I like. I know a lot of people thought it was just "Press X to Win," but thinking that way tells me they didn't play much, if any, of the game, as you can get your ass kicked in even a normal battle if you don't shift Paradigms effectively. It's something, in concept, of a cross between the systems of X-2 and XII, both of which I enjoyed(though I thought the Gambit system was overkill).
