There have been numerous indie games released this year, but only one indie game can be the winner of the VGU Awards for best indie game of 2013. The results will shock you.
I wasn't a fan of Gone Home, I just didn't find the story very interesting really. The Reader Choice was more up my alley, Guacamelee is a great game, I love the humour and the nods to other games that they've put in. The Stanley Parable would also be on my list for best indie game, another game I can appreciate for the humour. With some of the best voice acting I've heard as well.
Scratches was released 7 years ago and is essentially Gone Home but longer, without the awful social justice plot and a mystery added. Aside from that, Scratches received mixed reviews, scoring as low as 3/10 and as high as about 7-8/10, yet received noawards. Gone Home is Scratches with an awful plot and can be completed in an hour on your first run, and 2 minutes on your second, it received universal critical acclaim and has won numerous awards. Screw video game journalism.
