Buy Now or Save Later, The Trouble With Instant Game Collection

HardcoreGamer - In 2010, Playstation Plus was Sony’s answer to Xbox Live Gold. While the 360 was running riot early on in the seventh generation, Sony needed a way to get gamers’ attention and get them to flock to PSN. PS+ was a feature-rich buffet of perks: cloud saves, early access to demos and multiplayer betas, and frequent store discounts made the service a worthy opponent to Xbox Live Gold. But the one feature that everyone really kept an eye on was Instant Game Collection, Sony’s monthly offering of full, free-to-download games. Gamers reveled in the idea of free games each month; it was a dream come true and it pushed PS+ subscription numbers to new heights. But Instant Game Collection, for all its amazing offers and selections, poses one big question for Sony and its supporters, one that has changed the landscape of PSN and the gaming marketplace forever.

"The Trouble With Instant Game Collection"

This is a problem with deals in general. There is always a chance you could get it for less and always the chance you could pay more. When Muramasa Rebirth got a CE, I thought it was a lock that thing was going to be rare. Few months later, it dropped in price and still hasn't sold out. Other games, like Killer is Dead, dropped to $20 dollars so fast that I feel sorry for anyone that paid $60 for it.

With this being said, people need to treat the IGC two ways. The first is to accept that somethings things won't work out. I've gotten a lot of great games from the IGC and I've owned most of them. I just smile and think "it's super awesome people get a chance to play Disgaea 3". The other is to not let it control your life. There is no point in being a gamer, if you let $20 dollars stop you from playing Tearaway, especially when that might not be added for another year or three.

I hear ya on that. I picked up Tearaway myself. I'm not really a platform/puzzle gamer, but I like to try new things, plus I figured I can enjoy it in spurts. The thing about IGC is that many gamers may do the "wait and see" approach. I've myself done it with steam and PS plus. Money is at times tight especially with a family so you start to think should I drop $40-$60 on a game. Even if I can afford I try to hold out on the single player games. I've done games like The Last of Us day 1. I know it has multiplayer, but that's not really what I bought it for. If it's a multiplayer game like BF I just take the plunge. Unfortunately holding out may not be in the best interest of developers, but my hope is that they make enough money to stay in business. I usually buy console games around the $30 sale mark and PC games from greenmangaming, gamefly and such.

The way I look at it, is that most of the time when I buying my games I look for specific titles and am less inclined to experiment (though it has never been completely out of the question), and at some point titles that I passed over even though I may have had a passing curiosity end up on PS+ where I get to go back and try out something that I may have missed.

my only problem with PSplus is having no time to play all those free games..and games i bought with huge discount price..

My biggest gripe with PS+ since the beginning, is it will not let you purchase the game if you DL'd it from the IGC unless your subscription runs out :/

Most games I'm not too bothered about, but there are a few I would like to own for if I ditch PS+ at some point.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.
