HardwarePal : AMD has just released the new Mantle demo where they showcase some quite impressive features. The presentation was done with the help of Oxide Games studio.
Holy crap I just watched the whole video and I'm amazed.Their goal was to create something for an console.past the 10:00 mark the showed an slide that just screamed MAG2.Later on it was another slide that seems like The Order:1886. We all know that AMD and Sony worked on an modified chip for the PS4.And its so kind of strange that their research for Mantle kind of seem like it started around when Sony started R&D on the PS4. The fact that one of their solutions of console development speaks volume. One of them even mention that the had to "beg" for their tech to be taking seriously. If you watch the video from beginning to end I think you will also believe something more is going on with this demo. Could this be an more in-depth demo about the games and standards the PS4 could set in the future. The fact an slide mention unified-memory as an plus and the only console that have unified-memory is the PS4. Could the PS4 challenge high end PCs for atleast 3-5 years? Also what type of format will Sony and AMD create with PS5?Holy shit the future of gaming just got scary... Only game I think could prove AMD and Sony have sometype of secret partnership going on is if PlantSide 2 is able to achieve Ultra setting on the PS4.I'm sorry but this tech demo just got me even more hype for the future of Playstation Nation...
Mantle is basically GPGPU compute on the PC game development. Just like what is coming with PS4/XB1/WiiU development. Although WiiU and XB are lesser GPGPU than PS4. All three platforms have benefits from it. Mantle should help even some couple year old PC tech evolve with GPGPU compute. For new PC tech it multiplies its potential on PC. It evolves PC development and helps with scaling it to consoles. Its a big shift for game changes to all games in the future. Its not just benefiting PS4. PC is always outweighing PS4. PS4 = 1080 while PC = 1080 up to 2k with 30-60 fps on affordable tech with 4k 30+ fps on expensive tech. Compute wise it could match PC for 1-3 years with alot of things. Alot of the reason being PC has no real exclusive development teams anymore to take advantage of new tech. So alot of PC games are built with lesser things for multiplatform development.
I'd like a good summary of this. Don't think I'll watch the whole thing.
You missed the whole point. Sony has nothing to do with this. For consoles, they are already using "low level" optimizastions, thats why we say: "console games are more optiized than PC games". But now, AMD wants to bring the "low level" optimization mostly for PC but consoles can benefit from this too.
Yeah I agree, I'll also add that it's more for PCs, but they are using the PS4 as part of their overall goal for better optimizations. Mantle will primarily benefit the PC.
I think we watched 2 totally different 43 minute videos because the one I watched had absolutely nothing to do with consoles or Sony. "Their goal was to create something for an console.past the 10:00 mark the showed an slide that just screamed MAG2.Later on it was another slide that seems like The Order:1886." No idea why you would think any of that from the video. "Could this be an more in-depth demo about the games and standards the PS4 could set in the future." No this was a presentation from Oxide games that that they themselves say has nothing to do with consoles. "Could the PS4 challenge high end PCs for atleast 3-5 years?" It can't challenge them now so why would you believe it could for the next 3-5 years? "I'm sorry but this tech demo just got me even more hype for the future of Playstation Nation..." Not sure why, but you seem a bit confused about the whole video.
I think he's coming to the conclusion because at a recent expo AMD or Dice mentioned that the PS4 is going to be involved in the optimization. Something like that, sorry I can't remember what it was exactly.
Yeah, the guy is deluded. Nearly nothing he said had anything to do with what was discussed in the video. Anyway, what especially excites me is the part where they talked about how CPU scaling across cores is much better with Mantle. So not only is the API much more efficient, but it will now allow for much better utilization of our multi-core processors.
Sooo... you're saying Dual Shock 4 is the best controller?
I'm still waiting to be impressed. Until the BF 4 patch comes out that conclusively destroy Nvidia in the benchmarks I will remain skeptical. AMD is infamous for their inability to deliver on most of their tech while constantly falling behind Nvidia at every cycle.
Low level API this is big for PC gamers, I just hope nvidia supports it and ports or finds away to make it work with their GPU architecture this mantle API can make things easier and push PCs to another level of detail. most big game developers are using it within the past 2-3 months so I think its going to be a standard API for PCs by Q3-4 next year 2014. Thanks to AMD for making a low level API for the benefit of customer's and developers. Its unlikely but the only thing I dont want is for nvidia to bring their own API then devs will have to implement both which will be more time consuming and maybe costly.
lol this technology isn't coming to consoles, keep dreaming folks. I'll wait for OpenGL and Direct X to make their low level APIs, don't see Mantle staying alive unless it goes compatible with NVIDIA cards.
All I can say is Colony Wars return? :)
