Xbox One Should Always Be Sitting Horizontally

JPS Writes: "We told you back in August that Microsoft warned against standing your Xbox One vertically, not because of cooling issues but due to the different type of disc drive used in the system. Now that I’ve gotten my hands on the console, I thought I would repeat that message once again." (Xbox One)

You don't want it to be like the Xbox 360 disk-eating slim.

This is extremely old news

Some journalist and gamers are finding it hard to believe that x1 should always be setting vertically.. Makes me wanna say this famous hashtag from former MS employee #dealwithit
ziggurcat  +   781d ago
Who's dumb enough to stand the xbone, which is clearly not designed to stand upright, upright?
Godmars290  +   781d ago
Anyone who doesn't know about this when every other console they own is upright.
Picnic  +   781d ago
The original PS2 is probably the only console that has ever been pictured with a stand implying that it's OK to put it upright. It was a bit of a gimmick to make it stand tall and proud. No other consoles has been specifically designed or officially pictured to be stood up.

"No other consoles has been specifically designed or officially pictured to be stood up"

Go Google Xbox 360. Now.
Godmars290  +   781d ago
Does anyone really remember what the original Xbox 360 looks like? without having to Google that is.
SilentNegotiator  +   781d ago
I think "ignorant to the fact" is a thousand times more appropriate here than "dumb enough" since last gen was all consoles that could be set vertically.

You're right about consoles being able to be stood vertically I have now found. I just would never do it.
Maybe you could not shout orders at people though - unless you want them all to be 'silent' in their thoughts.

All consoles should. I had a bad experience with someone knocking over my vertical console when I was playing a game.

Never again.
KingDadXVI  +   781d ago
I had the same experience so mine are always horizontal now. It may look cool or even fit your situation better but I really did not like the chance of the thing falling over again.
DeadIIIRed  +   781d ago
Yep, my gf loves cats and cats hate vertical consoles. RIP my fat PS3
Audiggity  +   781d ago
Ugh. Cats. A video to explain cats: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

So, yeah, politely invite the cat to leave your home upon technological damage. Remind the cat that it serves no purpose in this world unless it can produce YouTube videos, or at least hilarious .gifs.

Well, not even to the PS3, Wii or Xbox 360.

All my consoles except my Wii and Wii U are horizontal.
parentsbasement  +   781d ago
Not a problem for PS4, it has gyroscopes and cant be knocked over, and IF they fail (they wont, its Sony for gosh sakes) there is an airbag to let it down gently......plus, if need be, it can hover I think.
KingDadXVI  +   781d ago
LOL. I am not trolling here but just wanted to add a bit of humor so I just have to say that you forgot that Super Yoshida and his Super Cape will also arrive at the speed of light as a last resort to catch it if it falls over. Seriously though I am just being a little satirical here. I think the PS4 is a great console.
parentsbasement  +   781d ago
It is and I want one....just kidding around....

I thought he was as fast as an entangled particle?
Sarcasm  +   781d ago
This is all a lie. My PS4's airbag failed and the console tipped over. This means that there is a rampant problem among all PS4's.
dredgewalker  +   781d ago
I think you guys got the old model, mine comes with rocket boosters that effectively stops my ps4 from falling. I heard they were having problems with the factory that made the airbags.
Reportillo4  +   781d ago
Haha how would the airbags help... I thought airbags were activated on impact nice comment man. Made me laugh
punisher99  +   781d ago
The xbox1 is too big to be designed only to sit horizontally. That is such an inconvenience for some people. There really is no excuse for it, microsoft should have used a more versatile drive.

Lucifun  +   781d ago
IMHO, it is better for both consoles to be horizontal because it is safer. If it is standing up, there is the possibility of it to fall and break (unless you have it up on carpet or something), but I will admit I do not know many people who have their console vertically.
punisher99  +   781d ago
@Lucifun:

To be honest with you. I had my PS2 vertical the entire generation with no issues, and the same with my PS3. Its convenient for me to have that option which simply saves space.
Goku781  +   781d ago
Everyone already knows this.
urwifeminder  +   781d ago
Refreshing not to be an article about Sony on the xbox page for a change kudos N4G wow yes no way would I stand xb1 up.

This really just should never have been approved...it adds little in the way new information. Just a rehash of what has been known for months.

Agreed.

This just in on N4G.com...

If Microsoft says dont do it, just dont do it otherwise you run the risk of ruining your console and games.

I have my PS4 set up vertically to save space and I'm only doing it because Sony said its safe. I also like the stand.
