Final Fantasy XIV: An Open Letter to Naoki Yoshida – Please Slice One Zero Off the Housing Prices

On December 14th Square Enix announced the price of land plots for the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn housing feature that will be implemented tomorrow with patch 2.1 “A Realm Awoken.” The prices have caused quite a stir within the community, as they’re so high that many players and Free Companies (the game’s equivalent of guilds) won’t be able to afford enjoying the feature for a long time, if at all, especially on the most populated legacy servers.

They said NO.

Reason? Well they want to try and get as much sub money out of you as possible ;)

So what are you waiting for? GET GRINDING!

SirBradders1377d ago

Have you seen the 2.1 patch notes? There is a hell of a lot more content than some silly house prices to keep my sub money for another 2-3 months till the next content patch (2.2).

Jubez1871377d ago

Let's lower the price so we can zerg our way to our goal then make a thread on the forums saying "nothing to do. bored. cancelled subscription"

Abriael1377d ago

That's not how housing works. Good housing design provides a low short term entry level and high long term goals so one actually gets to participate in the content early and has a lot to look forward to in the long run.

Yours is just a strawman argument :D

Jubez1871377d ago

I suppose, IDK, I couldn't give a hoot about housing seeing as it's purely aesthetic besides maybe some crafting perks. Also, the price of the housing is going to decline at a steady rate over the weeks/months. Maybe if they made the house easier to get but made the interior objects harder to get? That way it'll feel like you're slowly building instead of the absolute: have house/don't have house.

They also said that they wanted to kill off some RMT gold buy having them sink millions into fast housing. Something like that.

Abriael1377d ago

RMT don't buy houses. They have nothing to gain from it. Also, they didn't say that. Some players just theorized it, and it isn't true.

Housing has several perks bound to furniture by the way, not just crafting.

The decline of housing prices has a hard cap. It'll never go under 50%, and that's in three months.

Square enix have done a great job in my books so far, so im pretty confident that they know what they are doing.

I don't understand the hate from some people, this is a long term game all the biggest end game items should be harder to get to make the economy balanced. Its not like you cant spend less to get a smaller plot anyway.

Lovable1377d ago

I concur. It surely looks like very expensive, but that's the point of it. It's made so that FC have something to work for in the long run.

Abriael1377d ago (Edited 1377d ago )

Making housing only something you can get "in the long run" is bad design.

Good design is to give a quick, cheap entry level, and lofty, costly goals to build up to in the long run.

Lovable1377d ago

I don't know what you mean, but there are options of cheap small houses.

In most populated servers, many people are even over 10m gil in their account, so I don't really see the problem.

Abriael1377d ago

When the smallest, least desirable plot is 20 million the "spend less" isn't much of an option.

People are upset because this was the most publicized, most touted addition of patch 2.1, not to mention a largely hyped feature since A realm reborn was announced, and many are basically completely locked out of it.

screw housing , bring on the PVP !!!!!

badjournalism1377d ago

Oh look. Abriael throwing another tantrum on the scale of the one he threw on the Lodestone forums when he didn't get into the Alpha for ARR? I'm shocked. Shocked I say! Keep crying. Your tears, and the tears of all the whiners on the forums, sustain me.
