"PS4 Vs. XOne Global:
Gap change in latest month: 523,927 – PS4
Gap change over last 12 months: n/a
Total Lead: 523,927 – PS4
PS4 Total Sales: 2,099,126
XOne Total Sales: 1,575,199"
not as bad as the 2:1 ratio I thought we'd see but then again this is vg charts so could still be....
2 to 1 is impossible right now. Microsoft announced the Xbox One sold 2 million units after 18 days, which is the end of the first week in December. Sony also announced the PS4 has sold 2.1 million units as of December 1.
once Sony manage to meet the overwhelming demand the gap should get much bigger, this could take a few months.
the 2.1 million was NOT as of december 1st
to the store, not to the consumer :)
My friends....this is VGCHartz. It goes against both Microsoft's and Sony's own official #s
i chose the superior hardware
if only Sony was able to flood the shelves with the ps4, its would sell pretty much non-stop.
It's gonna be 3:2 soon because even though it's Christmas, the rate of people buying X1s will go down. Even the PS3 could not sell that fast at $500.
They're both selling well. But after all the uninformed get their gifts for Christmas we'll start to see the PS4 pull further and further ahead.
Yea I have been thinking of this all along. It's the uninformed or xbox fans just buying X1 right now.
Just because the PS4 is sold out online doesn't mean it's sold out. Same goes with the Xbone. If some of you actually walked into a Best Buy or Walmart you would know the truth, they're not sold out.
we're only a month into a new generation, you can't read anything from launch numbers. even if Microsoft had their old policies they would still have sold a lot of consoles during the launch window. just go and ask Nintendo, Wii U sold like hotcakes on launch, look at it now.
While that is true the Xbox One and PS4 both sold more than the Wii U did in its launch. The Wii U sold just over 1 million units when it launched and that is including Japan.
HMM! i thought PS4 was at 2.4 mil and I think there was an article talking about Xbone hitting 2 mil. What are the real numbers? Vgchartz stop playing with us... :)
These figures are for just November.
meaning this is old news. What's the point then?
still using xbone as a diss? smh...go away
i think that it would have been worse had Xbox kept the DRM. Taking it off saved them, but still caused them to lose a lot of people.
until January we won't really see the trend. Right now it's just how many they can make.
Both brands are failing to meet demand, and as a result it is impossible to judge the true gap in that demand.
This is merica we talking about, its more than 2:1 for ps4 anywhere else around the world pretty much..
Shouldnt have posted this, xbone fans are going to be really upset.
I don't see why. Even when PS4 starts to outsell it by millions. Are they gonna get upset every time they see the sales charts? its not worth it.
Not really. I own all three. People that get upset are tards. The only people that should really be concerned with charts are stockholders. Unless sales are really abysmal for a console, THEN there's cause for concern amongst gamers. X1 and PS4 are both doing very well. Only concern I have is with the Wii U, but even that, it's my least played console.
+Bubble for that. Well said.
I really don't think xbox fans were expecting the xb1 to outsell, or even keep pace with the ps4 1:1... That would be wishful thinking based on the price point alone...
globally the X1 will never be as popular and right now in the US and europe X1 isn't as popular. Cant wait until the PS4 releases in japan and the surrounding asian countries. It will be 4>1 in a year or two.
It's going to be close especially when Xbox One launches in the other countries Selling points for Xbox in 2014 in new countries will be 1. Snapping/Kinect 2. Halo 5, Titanfall, Quantum Break 3. Xbox Live dedicated servers/infrastructure It'll be interesting to see what happens when Microsoft lowers the price even if it's down to $450 that'll make the Xbox One even more appealing
The countries it already launched in are the only countries it's going to be close in. Neither of them has launched in Japan.
Agreed. I don't think MS has a chance in Japan as per standard. They'll sell decent amount from the 'new shiny toys!" buyers and the hardcore but inevitably it will drop off.
There is nothing to close for MS in "other" countries. Which ones are those? Japan ain't it. Europe neither, and that it will make a big dent in Asia or South America is an illusion. The biggest markets have been met, MS is behind everywhere. They are doing quite well in the US - and if they are lucky they can get through this phase riding the the wave of stock shortages until demand goes down after the holidays. Sony still sells - and delivers - more on a global scale than MS - even if this means they fall short in restocking supplies in the US. PS4 is still ahead, but what's more, is, that it sells (more than) 2:1 in Europe and this isn't changing (maybe in favor to Sony, if anything). For MS it looks like the US is the most important market - they are an US company to begin with; their share holders are American's (mostly?), they balance in US$. They have lower supplies but allocate more to Americas in the hope to catch up there. It's not enough and Sony is keeping the gap and widens it on a global scale. This is...if those numbers carry at least some kind of truth. The European numbers make kind a sense; but American numbers are weird at best. Maybe that's because of all that release cycles and all...but next gen SW sales kinda totally fell off the roaster which is strange - in Europe SW shows kind of a proportional pattern to HW. US looks random to me.
It will be an even bigger gap when PS4 launches in other countries.
I think you're overstating the importance of these games. What if most people who want these games have already made their Xbox One purchase? Also, surely it works the same way with Sony's exclusive games.
You do realize that Sony matched MS with price drops for the PS3 even when it was more expensive to produce...and guess what globally it outsold the 360 for several years straight. Since these components are modified off the shelf parts Sony will be able to match MS with every price drop. If Think about it $450 for a XB1 or $350 for a PS4. As the price lowers for both it will only really help PS4 to increase the gap especially in international markets. Just saying it's not like MS will be the only one to drop the price...both companies dropped price several times last gen to stay competitive with each other so why would you think that it would change now.
No they can't and neither can MS. It all comes down to what drops in price faster. GDDR5 or DDR3. EDRam also is supposed to scale really well with smaller nodes. But GDDR5 might just drop like crazy as well. If the latter happens Sony will be able to drop the price far more then MS can or make more profit. If the former happens MS will be able to drop the price faster or make more profit. It isn't all that black and white as you put it here.
Since tech advances and price drops every 8 to 14 months best believe as all of these RAM prices fall in the next year or so you will see price drops around mid 2015 for both companies. Remember they are not just competing with each other but tablets have eaten small parts of consumer purchases and that will continue as well as those while few decide to get steam machines. These other contributing factors will force price drops especially prior to actual parts price drops in anticipation of the RAM or other components becoming cheaper. An example would be if Sony knew DDR3 was going to drop in price next month and GDDR5 would drop the following month Sony could drop price this month and take a hit in value for market share knowing full well it will balance itself out in a month or two but will allow them to beat MS to the punch. Do you see what I'm saying. Remember both companies are willing to take small hits if it means larger market share because that means more money in software sales which is where they both make most of their profits from and XBLG or PSN+. They two will be able to help offset the slight loss in revenue. Just some things to consider.
I doubt Sony would attempt to match a price drop this early in the game. Believe it or not, these companies are in this to make money. They have shareholders that they are responsible to. Lowering the price of your product while you are already having trouble keeping up with demand is not only idiotic, it would cost LOTS of jobs. Dropping the price wouldn't help their marketshare at all, because it's obvious that at this point their sales are only limited by supply, not demand. Not only would they be leaving money on the table, but it wouldn't help them sell more consoles.
@mhunterjr That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm talking price drops in mid 2015 that's a year and a half which is about when we saw the PS3 drop in price so it's not far fetched. I know that supply chain issues is whats holding PS4 from selling more but to say price doesn't play a factor is just not true. If the price of a PS4 was say $300 it would be out of stock well into next Christmas...why because every time it came back into stock it would sell out in mins. Price in the US is the number one purchasing reason for consumer followed by brand name and then quality. If Sony had a small price tag of $300 it would sell well beyond the PS2 numbers...just saying price is key in the US and for most of the world right now.
I don't think RAM will be the deciding factor. I just think the PS4 has in fact a higher savings potential than the Xbo due to it's simpler design and the Sony's skill to be actually very good at cost reducing HW. The PS4's APU is much "leaner" than Xbo's; it should be easier to shrink its APU at least to the same extend or better. Would be my guess, at least.
I think I'd wait for an actual release date for Halo and QB before you officially count them. Especially QB.
The PS4 was at 2.1 Million two weeks ago. These XBO numbers are also a week old. I think we should stop caring about numbers for now. They're both doing well enough for developers to support both.
so Microsoft, Tier 2 countries? when are they getting Xbox Ones? not even a hint of a launch window for them, let alone a launch date but it doesn't matter anyway as PS4 is pretty much the only way to go outside of the US.
I see this as a healthy thing. I don't care which sell more its all about the games. I think by now both combine has reach 4 millions in sells.
It will be at least March until the figures show demand for the XBONE is tailing off and the ps4 is HOT HOT HOT. Should be ugly by summer 2014 for MS.
Who the Hell cares??? Just give me more games for both. Cant wait till I get my Ps4 in March!!! Till then I have the Xbox one to hold me over until Infamous comes out.
Come March/April 2014 ps4 will be at 7mill and xbone around 5 mill imo
PS4 will dominate once it gets it's supply up. Xbone will be D.O.A.
O.O I can't believe you said that. I thought you were a hardcore Xbox fan.
Dammit!! Social experiment ruined! You caught me, I was bored and wanted agrees.
i went to st.cloud fla wal mart yesterday after noon and they sold 40 ps4 by noon
Any idea how long it'll take for supply/demand to normalize for both of these systems? These numbers don't really tell me anything yet.
Depends on which console you're talking about. Much points to MS meeting demand (reports of readily available stock)while Sony probably wont until next year sometime.
We need both to sell well. That's best for gamers.
Said it months ago, Wait until early spring to start comparing sales. As of right now they will sell every system they make due to the holidays sales rush.Once the hype dies down and the dedicated day one buyers are owners, system sales will trickle down to a steady rate and then actual comparisons will make sense. Right now it's as if you're throwing chum in a shark tank and saying "Hey look, they ate all my chum" Pointless.
hmmmm in the month of November
Xbox One available in 13 markets
PS4 available in 32 markets
December PS4 will launch in a further 15 markets
Taking the PS4 to available in 48 markets around the world
Now if you were to divide $2,099,126 by 32 markets (November) well that equates to 65,597.37
If you do the same with the Xbox One which is divide 1,575,199 by 13 (November) markets which equates to 121,169.15
Depending how you view the numbers you can spin it either way to show one selling better than the other i.e. One available in more places globally = Bigger Sales, or one still available in small quantities at retail while one is sold out in most places = A Sales bump that depending how long it takes the competition to restock retailers, gives them a chance to play catch up and gain ground on sales.
The reality of it all is that both consoles are proving to be very successful and that makes me very happy.
This is irrelevant. If you look at e.g. US vs. Europe, the markets either have released in Europe are about the same size of the Americas (give or take 300M - US/CA vs. 5 largest European economies; where both launched). Yet, America's outsold Europe by 1/3rd. Another example, UK: 68M population, Germany 80+, France, Spain, Italy ~60 -> yet 50% of consoles sold in UK alone; the rest in those countries. The proportion will go down even further for additional markets. Adding new countries will add peanuts to total sales - Except Japan; and maybe China (Shanghai). But Asia most likely goes towards Sony yet again (Japan without a doubt).
both companies must be very happy with the numbers sold so far , so much for the death of console gaming
xb1 will outsell the competition or keep it close even though it's more expensive and a much better designed console built for the future.
Thanks for the laugh brother!
"xb1 will outsell the competition or keep it close " No it won't, the PS3 outsold the 360 despite launching a year later, this time around the PS4 is more powerful by a larger margin than the PS3 was in comparison to the 360 and cheaper than the PS3 was in comparison to the 360......PS4 will dominate the entire gen. "and a much better designed console built for the future." Everyone here knows that the best thing to have to make something more "future proof" than your rival is more power, the more power your console has the less quicker it becomes dated. The PS4's superior hardware will start to show even more than it is already at the end of this gen, just like it did with the PS3 with titles such as Uncharted 3, TLOU and Beyond 2 Souls....all of which would not have looked/ran on the 360 as they did on the PS3.
Guys this war was over since E3 2013. MS will never catch up. Once the PS4 is out in Japan and in full production world wide, stores full in stock, MS will have have to settle for second place. Just get the damn console your buddies are getting and be happy. And remember not to game too much, go outside and do an activity. Workout, work, game, eat healthy, handle your business. Have fun these holidays ppl.
PS4 hasnt hit japan yet either tho.. Numbers will increase.. Its weird cuz i see xb1 everywhere i go but ps4 is sold out so i dont see how M$ can say theyre sold out nationwide
for me there's absolutely no reason to buy a PS4. i think the xbox one is just the all around better system. but to each his own.
VGChartz is a Nintendo/Pokemon fan boy site that make numbers up for hits. Their numbers do not line up with the Big 3 companies officials numbers. Stop giving the owner of VGChartz traffic and do not believe those made up laughable sales charts. Only NPD provides accurate sales numbers. For good sales analysis visit NeoGaf instead of VGChartz.
I feel bad for all the potential sales lost around christmas time because sony can't keep up with demand. There's going to be many xbox ones under the xmas tree instead of ps4. Certainly in australia, they fucked up.
There isn't much point dwelling on Vgchartz numbers at this point. The staggered launches made any 1 to 1 comparison ambiguous, up to now. However, in January, there will be industry numbers for the year end sales including December. The PS4 is supply limited (always sold out) and the XBO is demand limited (plenty available on shelves and online). It's only a few weeks away to January so don't draw any conclusions until then although it is pretty simple to see the PS4 is outselling the XBO by quite a bit.
Except the fact that the Xbox One has sold 2 million units…
