Why Do Developers Take Us For Idiots? [A Two Part Opinion Piece]

Matt of RGN writes, "In an age of gaming where a majority of gamers are over the age of 35, why is it that developers think their audience are idiots?" (Culture)

Spending hundreds of dollars on a machine with no games of worth but plenty of microtransaction opportunities?

@kwyjibo I'm enjoying a lot of indie games that are exclusive on next-gen. Sorry you aren't having the same experience.

There must be a reason that they do it...my guess isn't majority of gamers but the lowest common denominator. Most gamers over 30 played Zelda 2 and Mega Man...they don't nees tutorials and love a challenge. And most gamers I know r very smart ppl...but there must exist a demographic that isn't. And considering how terrible r schooling is today and how.literacy is at an all time high...I can understand. Throw in competition and raging add and adhd and u get a consumer base that has no patience, no focus and must be catered to...as the LCD. It sucks b/c I don't think graphics are the problem...but a symptom. Great games that look good can b made...and we have seen a huge influx of indies that in many ways have appeased all those that are looking for more. But I wonder how many of a particular demo have ignored indies entirely? There r great games out there but for now big budget titles will treat us as idiots simply bc some of us are...and money must be made.
