GTA V itself was an amazing game. But as much as Rockstar would like us to think otherwise, GTA V and GTA Online are part of the same game. GTA Online may have a different name, but it's still just the multiplayer component for GTA V.

And for that reason alone, GTA V doesn't deserve the number 1 spot. Half the game was completely broken on release, and continues to be broken and continually becomes more and more of a money grab. When it comes to awards and lists like this, you can't just ignore half a game to focus on the good parts. I find that dishonest.

Sorry but it doesn't work like that. The multiplayer portion was always going to be a rough start, they have ideas for it and it is an ambitious goal to achieve.

I've had a lot of fun with it, but the reason I got the game was for the SP and it was one of the best games I've ever played and deserves the recognition it has got.

If I went by your reasoning I'd have to give The Last of Us a 5/10 because I wasn't particularly fond of the MP, which would be insane as I absolutely loved the SP and it is one of the best games ever made.

GTA5 certainly belongs at the top in my eyes, it's close with TLOU but GTA5 just pips it.

I get what you're saying. But whether or not Rockstar has ambitious goals for the games future is completely irrelevant. Games should be rated based on what they are right now, not what they *might* be in the future.

If you don't like TLOU multiplayer that's absolutely fine, but the difference there is that TLOU multiplayer actually works as promised/intended whereas GTA Online is broken in many areas and is missing many promised features such as heists, stock market, etc. Big difference there.

Each new patch fixes issues while introducing new problems and new features that don't even work, such as the $250 fee to retrieve impounded vehicles which was introduced in 1.07. That feature does not work at all, and Rockstar never gave an explanation on how it was supposed to work anyway. Rockstar keeps having to release patches to fix their previous patches.

Each new patch continues to make it harder and harder to earn money in the game, they've completely nerfed both cash and RP payouts for all races and missions. It's at the point where you either farm cash 24/7 and still make hardly any money, or you give in and spend real money to buy in-game cash cards which is exactly what Rockstar wants you to do.

I don't understand how you can even begin to compare not liking a completely working multiplayer experience (TLOU), to one that is overall broken, riddled with bugs, and is designed to farm real cash out of players. That just doesn't make sense to me.

Said it before, will say it again: It should have been called GTA III Part 4. GTA V has the same empty feel of its predecessors. Nice draw distance, big world, but BORING. I wouldn't even put it in the top 5 for the year.

Fire emblem awakening is criminally overlooked on this lists, Pokemon X/Y, Zelda and Mario do not deserve to be on the list they probably are because they are the only Nintendo titles the author knows

Fire Emblem Awakening, GTA5, The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, Super Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends, The Wonderful 101, Tomb Raider, TLOZ The Link Between Worlds, and Pokemon X and Y should be on everyones wish list. ( i might be missing some other classics from this year)
