Is PS4′s audience ready for free-to-play indie titles? Early bird developers say yes

Free-to-play games have walked a difficult line on PC and mobile devices. On the one hand, they’re a positive extension of the demo concept of yore – a chance for players to try out a new title without having to stump up cash for something which may, ultimately, disappoint. On the other, some publishers have come under fire for artificially padding their games with XP grinding, with progression technically possible through play alone, but games tacitly encouraging players to speed their advancement through micro-transactions. (Digital Extremes, Gaijin Entertainment, PS4, Steve Sinclair, War Thunder, Warframe)

Just don't mess it up. Free to play can be great when done right (for instance you don't feel like you have to buy stuff to proceed in/play the game but that odd item looks cool so I might get that)

One thing I can say is that with F2P if it's good people support it and the game prospers. If it's a scam the community pretty much craps all over it and tell everyone to avoid it. Regardless having the choice is nice and it will be part of the future.

I don't think I will ever be ready for games that are designed around grinding so you want to pay not to grind, putting the "free" label as if their customers are among those suckers who are born every minute, or developers who are going to obscure the real cost of getting a good and complete experience out of the game.

For every "free" to play game that might otherwise be good, there is a better one that could have been made if they just focused on making a great game at a fixed price... so just make that great fixed price game and put out a demo if you really care about your customers.

What kinda qustion is that anyway? "Is the ps4 audience ready?" If it's a free game and someone wants to play it, then people will play it.
