If you think no harm can befall you while you're swashbuckling in the virtual world, you might want to take heed of a sobering new report.
Easy fix, don't play games for 8 straight hours 4 times a week, lol. I don't know who can play for that long without getting back spasms. Remember, the healthier you are, the longer you live, the more time you have to play games
I'm guessing that there were other issues with his health to begin with. I really doubt if a perfectly healthy individual played games for 8 hours straight that by the 2nd day he would already have developed some issues. Did this guy not have to get up to use the washroom or eat at all? What was he doing after the 8 hours of gaming?? There's a lot of information lacking from this report to suddenly blame it on the video games.
yeah ive played way longer than that a day for 2 and a half months straight during my socom years. it has more to do with his age and health. they warn truck drivers who drive a lot about blood clots in your legs from prolonged sitting. but a lot of them are over weight, drive long hours across country and have been for years. this was definately a personal issue.
That's what I was going to say. I've had my gaming binges that lasted much longer than this guy.. I wouldn't point to gaming as a cause until all other factors were taken into consideration. This is just media trying to blame crap on video games... Again.
The really sad part is that you really don't need that much exercise to maintain good cardiovascular health regardless of weight. I'm 320lbs but I train maybe 30min total for an entire week (granted this is very-high intensity) and have a resting heart rate of around 65. Also...I do miss when SOCOM was worth playing that long.
Video games did not lead to his condition, keeping still for 8 bloody hours a day for four days are what led to it. Videogames were merely the reason for his staying still, but they can't be blamed for that.
IDK. Breaking Bad almost killed me when it released to Netflix.
Don't most people do this that work in an office?
Schools 9 hours
Wtf when i game for long periods of times.I'll pause and do some stretches for a few minutes then get back to playing.
Speaking of sober... you should sober up before blaming this on video games. You can replace video games with books, tv shows, movies, writing...
The only time I ever felt at risk for my health while playing a video game was while playing the first Dead Space. That game scared me so bad that while playing, I would get a numb sensation running up and down my left arm, which is the sign of a pending heart attack. I'd play for hours and feel incredibly tense during and I think it didn't do me any favors healthwise.
Panic attacks can mimic the symptoms but either way you should probably get that checked out.
Thanks for that! There should be a "concerned" bubble vote, so I could vote you up accordingly.
I'm sorry, but one very specific case is not enough to make such conclusions. Also... "Experts say that unlike television or other sedentary activities, video games encourage people to stay still to finish a game." That is most certainly not a constant or even a trend. In fact, you're likely to move MORE playing a video game than simply watching TV. You're engaged when playing a game and what you do in the game demands you to be agent and attentive. With TV, you're watching and not involved with the show itself.
"The unidentified patient, who played while in bed, sought medical help after noticing swelling and pain in his legs" 1) Im sure he has pre-existing health issues 2) If you're sitting on your ass for hrs on end then yes you're going to have problems, anyone would. 3) If he had actually moved, like what most gamers do while playing, he wouldnt have had any pain. Just another sad article trying to blame gaming on health issues.
He obviously had underlying health problems, doesnt take a genius to work that out...I have played monstrous amounts of gaming sessions in a row but have always moved to go to the toilet, answer the door, cook tea, get a drink etc..what the hell was this guy doing haha...so if he would of watched TV for 8 hours a day for 4 days straight he would of been fine? Ppffhahahahaha idiot....
