A Look at Female Leads in Video Games

In an industry that mostly portray female characters as nothing more shameless persona’s with outrageous busts and a habit for wearing revealing outfits, a few games stand out from the rest by having female leads that don’t rely on such innuendos to appeal to the masses. I am not saying that nudity is bad as a little bit never hurt anyone but if its done to the point that it draws attention away from a game – you just know that something is wrong. (GameCube, Half-Life 2, PS2, PS3, Tomb Raider, Wii, Xbox 360)

Agreed and in spite of her design Ivy ends up being a very strong and interesting character instead of just t&a. That said, SC is dominated by fan-service for both genders just like DoA. Sex sells.

I find it funny however that the article states the exploration and puzzles are what made the known sex symbol, Lara Croft famous. We all know the 'two big reasons" she was popular and this writer missed both of 'em! Sure, she's well characterized throughout the games but you can't say her game would have been as popular as it was without the sex appeal.

I remember playing Tomb Raider for the 1st time. My favorite thing to do? Climb ledges while holding Shift.
