Despite some of the negative reviews many gaming publications have given it, Ryse: Son of Rome is actually an enjoyable experience that really shows off the Xbox One's potential capabilities.
I agree and don't believe it is a bad game It has incredible graphics, good gameplay and a great story Legendary difficulty is one of the toughest challenges I've had gaming
"Review - It's Not That Bad " Sounds more like an undeserved higher mark due to sympathy... Keep convincing yourself that it was a well worthy purchase;-)
Funny that right above this article is a Killzone review titled "Pretty but dumb" with a lower score than this. I didn't play Ryse (and I'm glad I didn't spent money on it) but after watching some Youtube videos this must be a joke.
I've always taken "Not that bad" to mean bad, just not very. It's putting the kid gloves on when giving an opinion on something.
wow same words goes for your beloved stupid killzone shadow fall.
He doesn't need to convince himself of anything, he knows whether he enjoyed the game or not. I know I enjoyed the game. But hey, keep trying to push your agenda and convince me I didn't like it. Or don't.
no games use to be bad ,you stilll can find some fun part at every game ,ryse and killzone are the same coins with other faces ,yeah both are preety ,but blad, but still fun.
wow he is doing the game a favor with the 7.8 rating, but the way he worded did NOT do it any favors. Instead of saying "the game isn’t nearly as bad as they’re all saying." He could have said "the game isn’t bad, I dont agree with what they are saying". Its like a back handed complement. Saying a isn't as bad as they are saying is still admitting you think it is bad. So change your wording to match a 7.8 rating.
Or...the reviewer used the exact words they wanted to use and gave it the score they felt it deserved. Metacritic has it at a 60 overall...7.8 seems like it isn't as bad as everone is saying it is and isn't exactly a score that sets the world on fire. It's ok indy...it's ok.
This game deserves no more than a 7.5 no matter which way you slice it.
@Z_-_D_-_3, the game is average at best. It was lucky to get this score! Most of the scores for this game are lower than this.
@ Z D 3... So you've played it? And all the way through? Surely you must have if you venturing to contravene a reviewer with personal experience. Pray tell, what were your favorite and least favorite moments?
@onagao Considering that a great many other reviewers played it and gave it lower scores I'm not sure if it's relevant whether or not Z D 3 played it.
I just noticed. Some of the launch games for the new generation of consoles, including Ryse, have a lower score on Metacritic than Alpha Protocol, a game that was named one of the worst games of last gen.
That's just the thing, those are launch titles. Alpha Protocol wasn't a launch title and had years of development, so it had no real excuse to be so bad.
Media that joined the Sony bandwagon basically punished MSFT's offerings due to MSFT having a better lineup with more buzz worthy titles.
This may cheer you up. http://i13.photobucket.com/...
Coming from someone that played the game, he's right "its not that bad" but, unfortunately its also not that good either. Unfortunately for us gamers, Ryse does mediocrity very well.
I've played all the AAA exclusives of the PS4 and X1. Ryse is better than most of the next gen launch games. Ryse is definitely better than Killzone. Dead Rising 3 is probably the best out so far.
You can't see me, but I'm squinting at your comment right now. Something doesn't add up here....Hmmm... *strokes invisible beard*
Ryse was average and repetitive. Resogun was better than this.
Resogun? That piece of garbage wannabe sidescroller Geometry Wars?
@Opie Garbage? Don't hate man. Its the highest rated next gen exclusive.
Resogun is geometry wars, again, PS4 trying to be xbox 360...
Best game out both systems hands down disagree all u want fanboys but it's true I have both consoles.
i've too ,these fanboys are realy immature.
Resogun better than Ryse what the hell are u smoking ?????
Agree with u 100. I have both consoles and ryse way better than any other exclusive out there now. I loved the game idk if it is that i love rome but the story was great the last two chapters are wow. I give ryse a 9. For my self i know some wont agree but thats me. Loving rome 2 total war. Bubble for u.
I agree with you too, except on the 9 part. For me it would of been an 8. It was surprisingly good considering it wasnt even on my list to buy and I only grabbed it cause watchdogs got delayed. In the end im glad I did. After last gen and playing mainly shooters it was a welcome change for me.
I purchased four games at launch but held off on this game. I have it coming via gamefly this week. A have a friend and his gf...The liked it. I'll judge for myself.
It's beautiful, and the production value is without question. That alone counts for a lot in a launch title. I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign. But it's not necessarily good value for a purchase. The single player content is finite, and the multi-player is not good enough to extend it. Don't forget to check out the micro-transactions available on the market-place! But only to "rate" them 1 star. If I had to pin a score to the whole package I'd go 7.
It seems Ryse is like knack in that you have to play it to be the judge...don't go purely by reviews. I'm about to go check the mail box lol
The fact that you have to say "it's not that bad" means it really IS that bad.
It's not that good either.
Ps 4 is a good system I'll give it that , but if it's so good why are u here downing Ryse ???? U should be busy playing killzone. 1080p 1080p is all u fanboys can say but nothing looks better than Ryse. Lol u fanboys kill me with these lies I have both but play xbox more because the online gameplay can't even touch xbox one. I like knack, and have bf 4 and ghost cod for both systems and can't see any difference graphically. So please cut the bs!!!!
Beat the campaign and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The gameplay may be repetitive but I think the beautiful graphics, great spectacle, and rousing story carry this game through. A solid 7.5 at least.
Of course it could have been better, was probably rushed to get there at launch, but damn, it looked good to me.....and Resogun really? I played that game in 1980 when it was called "Defender".....I hope Sony at least gave Williams some mention in the credits.....
To not sound like an idiot. Don't say the graphics can only get better from here then rate the game graphics a ten. Make you seem like your just saying this crap to feel justified in your purchase
Reviews are always going to be scored relative to the current standards. Nobody is scoring games down because the future holds better, or we'd never see good scores...
Ryse is the best looking console game ever made, that alone would have gotten it widespread praise were it a PS4 exclusive. The only reason its getting so many mediocre reviews is because the media saw that PS4 launch titles were crap, and they didnt want to rate the xbo games too high for fear of sony fanboy backlash.
"Ryse is the best looking console game ever made" Oh really?: http://abload.de/img/201312... http://abload.de/img/amarec... http://abload.de/img/amarec... http://farm6.staticflickr.c... http://farm8.staticflickr.c... https://pbs.twimg.com/media... http://i6.minus.com/iWAgERL... RYSE looks awesome, but Killzone SF looks better. Bearing in mind those pictures are all super compressed so they look even better in person. There are plenty more here : http://www.neogaf.com/forum... There are even some RYSE screenshots showing textures and lighting nowhere near as good as KZ's.
I've played both and Ryse looks better IMO, KZSF uses far too much motion blur, makes me nauseous. Ryse's environments and detail is untouchable.
"The only reason its getting so many mediocre reviews is because the media saw that PS4 launch titles were crap, and they didnt want to rate the xbo games too high for fear of sony fanboy backlash." Yeah, that's totally the reason. http://gifrific.com/wp-cont... Somehow i don't think media professionals care about fanboy backlash......
Haha wat did you all honestly expect?? It was one of the first games on the console and everyone is carrying on like it should run at the xbones full potential.. I thought the idea of the game was great tho it was short.. Too short.. Even tho it was obviously rushedI'd still give it a 7..
I have this game as it came with my cyber monday bundle. It got a lot of bad press and i believed it but, that was before i saw actual gameplay. I saw the first 10 minutes and said well it actually doesnt look as bad as they say. Then i started playing. No question its the best looking game... during cutscenes. Gameplay looks great but certainly not amazing as the cutscenes they marketed it with. Now i know why they only showed the first 10 minutes. Its action packed and you get to do a variety of different things, then it get to be a more rinse and repeat and the execution animations repeat very often. the gameplay does offer some challenges(on normal) though not as often to make it a challenge as a whole. Its a decent hack and slash game but, i cant play more than about 30mins before getting bored. I wouldnt rate it below a 6 but neither would i rate it above a 7.
The fighting style does repeat a lot.. Once you have killed a few enemy's you shouldn't have too many dramas finishing it on any difficulty.. Haha iv flogged it to the point I don't wanto look at it.. Only because I'm reluctant to buy dead rising as In my opinion zombie games started going a little down hill after RE3 Nemesis.. And I think ghosts is a bit of a flop compared to BO2 so i just have to sit and suffer in silence till dark souls 2 and the devision hit shelves..
Thoroughly enjoyed the story, great graphics and great acting. Very shallow gameplay. I'd agree with that score.
I beat Ryse, was a decent game at best, I'd give it a 7. Dead Rising 3 is easily the best launch game on both consoles, so much fun playing online co-op.
Killzone is incredible in many ways...Reviewers seem to be dumbarses that don't even bother reviewing the multiplayer of games, such as many of the KZ:SF reviews....BUT, even without the MP, the single player is great, & that is because it doesn't try to be COD or BF, it has it's own, feel, personality & art style....Yes, the game is incredibly pretty, but it's a FPS....& last time I checked, Bioshock & Infinite are really only the 2 only console FPS's with great stories..... Most other FPS's are brainless shootathons.....In fact, many of the best are made that way...Hell, every damn Halo game AFTER Halo 1 have suffered the same fate. but THEY still miraculously score off the charts & have a massive fanbase. I haven't played Ryse yet, & I'm sure the 3 & such scores I've seen are a little dramatic, BUT, Knack is a pretty damn good little platformer for a launch title & it has copped it pretty hard too, from so called critics. And, fact is, Bioshock, BF, COD, & ALL these other FPS's are great & I like having them on my console.....but nearly all of them have that, "I really belong on PC feel".......The only FPS game series that I would want to return, is the most FUN console shooter ever made, Timesplitters....I know the disagrees will flow, but TS had virtually no story, yet blew ALL other console shooters out of the water in the gameplay & sheer fun stakes. The single player was hella fun, & the multiplayer was ridiculously addictive...It also ran at 60fps on PS2 from the very 1st one.
It's a nice game but, i bought it yesterday and started playing at 17h30 and finished the game the same day at 00:00 at the highest difficulty (in fact second to last since you can't play legendary on first play through) So imo the game does not deserve a 7.8 i'd nearly give it the passing grade. Graphics aren't everything in a game. I mean it's only 6 hours and you'll still get bored of the gameplay.
Coming from a big time veteran of this genre (hack n slash, melee combat)Ryse has a block move and basicly two combo moves. Thats it and frankly pathetic for this kind of game. The creative director, game producer, and combat lead should be immediately fired, terminated, let go (whatever is appropriate in a politically correct time period) from Crytek. Don't let those guys work on another of your games The only reviewers that think this game is good are bad reviewers.
