Could the PS Plus offering be ‘Too Good’?

onPause writes:

Sure, the headline in this post may look a little ridiculous but it is worth asking. (PS Vita, PS3, PS4, Tag Invalid)

PS+ pays for itself, you get a ton of free games that are relatively new, not 2006 games

Online Gaming Services should've always remained Free. Xbox live has always been a Ripoff.

yes, it totally pays for itself for the consumer, the question is, how big of a cost center is it for sony?
Section8  +   224d ago
Yeah, it doesn't seem that Sony benefits at all.
Sevir  +   224d ago
Pretty sure they do, especially now, that it's mandatory on PS4, 70% of the Plus subscribers pay for it on PS4 so the revenue they are pulling in is just insane.

A bulk of PS+ owners bought year memberships on Black Friday this year. So Sony Raked in millions in profit and will rake in more as more people get with the program.

It's only mandatory for synchronous online play. I personally am very anti-social with games and rarely ever play online. ALL services, such as Netflix, Hulu, and even screenshots, videos, and streaming, besides the online multiplayer (PS4 only) and cloud saves is FREE on PlayStation.

Be careful playing the pay to play card. You can still get by without Plus on the PlayStation platforms. However, the biggest difference is that PS+ actually offers something of real value worth paying for above and beyond what you get free without force or "incentive".

I still pay for PS+, but solely for the additional discounts and Instant Library (the reasons that pay for themselves -- especially if you own multiple PlayStation platforms). Everything else under the PS+ umbrella is just icing on the cake for me.

huge reason why i switched from 360. I just wish we'd start seeing some quality ps4 offerings. Granted, i know games need to come OUT for it, but still. For $10 less a month, you have access to TONS of free AAA games. Games that i wouldn't want to drop $60 on, but would want to play through at least
cluckey07  +   224d ago
They will come. Like you said they need to come out first. If they just give us every game free they will not make money.
iiwii  +   224d ago
Agree. And the best value is if you also have a PS3 you can get the free games for it too on the same account.

PS4 content will get better as games come out.

im assuming drive club will still have a free version when it releases
DanielGearSolid  +   224d ago
Old games that are pretty good. Or hidden gems that sold like shit. Keep that in mind and you can pretty much guess whats coming out on PS Plus. (I'm kidding, but its fun to try and call it)

Just think of yourself as paying $50 for 1 digital copy game from the store and you're all set.

It is a pretty awesome lineup

If it sounds too good to be true, it is
Lowsnamebrand  +   224d ago
In most cases I always agree with this saying but with PS+ I don't believe Sony would be doing it if it didn't benefit them more than the consumer, and since it benefits the consumer a hell of a lot it has to benefit them a lot more
HighResHero  +   224d ago
It's not too good to be true because you don't technically own most of the free games.

It is a pretty darn great anyway though. :]

The first free AAA PS4 title on PS+ will probably be Knack.
Sevir  +   224d ago
Driveclub!
CyrusLemont  +   223d ago
Ah yes, apologies! I forgot. Though I would imagine Knack will be on PS+ in the PS4s first year.
