Ubisoft President: Game delays 'ultimately will ensure we launch a better game'

Some folks may have a hard time understanding when one of their most anticipated games gets delayed, however; it always seems to workout for the better.

As it was highly publicized weeks ago that Watch Dogs and The Crew were going to be delayed, things have died down recently and fan emotions have become refocused on excitement and anticipation for the games once again.

Examiner.com recently had the chance to speak with Ubisoft North America President Laurent Detoc and he told us about having to make hard decisions when it comes to delaying a game. (PC, PS3, PS4, The Crew, Watch Dogs, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

That's true but they should really try and get games out for when they originally plan.

On a side note, I though I was coming into a google translated article when I saw "insure" instead of ensure.

Thanks for catching that.

At this point I rather have delays than yearly rehashes.

Just delay it if it's not ready ...there are enough other games available and there's nothing worse than buying an unfinished game that's more annoying than fun for 60 nucks.

We all went games to release on time but I rather have it delayed than have a bunch of bugs. Will always support developers like ubisoft unlike activisiom and EA

As long as a game doesn't turn out like AliensCM or DukeNukem I don't mind waiting

As long as my PC copy of Watch Dogs can potentially look as good as the original reveal trailer, it will be worth it.

EA can learn from Ubisoft.

you dont hear me complaining.
I can wait a few extra months to get a better product.
have enough games to keep me busy in the mean time.
besides, if im paying 60bux a game, i'd feel better if i know my money is going to getting a more complete product.

great to see ubi take pride in what they do rather than have a "We'll patch it if they complain" attitude.

Does this mean...1080p 60fps??
Sarcasm  +   300d ago
Resolution and framerate would be the last thing to worry about. I'm hoping for a solid online experience.

I hope so!

I like how ubisoft is not afraid of delaying a game if they don't think it is of an acceptable quality unlike certain other large publishers.
Sokol  +   300d ago
I have to agree, as much as I anticipate specific game release I would love to know that my hard earned 60$ is spent on a qualified and finished product.

Broken rushed game majority of the time can't be fixed for many months with patches, sometimes it can't be at all.

Ensure the game quality.

Delay is fine, but leaving so late in the game to announce like a month before I feel leaves bad taste for fans.

Yeah well duh

The real question is: How good it was going to be? so yeah, the delay probably end up with a better game but that could mean going from a 4/10 to 6/10 game. :P

Better quality? yes, better sales? Nope sadly

Translation: "Game delays 'ultimately will ensure we maximize profits." Sure, there's a higher demand for watchdogs so they'll maximize AC4 profits.
toddybad  +   300d ago
should stop talking about games a year before release. Just make a great game and let the reviews sell it for you.
Tzunoy  +   300d ago
or we will release when more people will own next gen consoles to increase the game sales number. Got it?

It's like quoting Miyamoto...

Just ensure the delay is worth it.

finished game is better than a half baked smh lol

That's why Ubisoft is waaaaaaaay better than EA. EA is the worst gaming company ever and their games all suck. But Ubisoft gives us good games like FarCry 3 and AC4.
