8 Things The PS4 Can’t Do That The PS3 Can

I've had my PS4 for a few days now and whilst I am loving it there are a few things my friend Mr Danny Lee and I noticed it doesn't do that it’s predecessor does. Don’t misunderstand me aside from the obvious bells and whistles the new console has a couple of nifty little features that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere such as the console no longer needs to fully boot up when ejecting the disc and the thin slit of light running down the top of the console actually changes colour depending on what it’s doing – orange for Standby, blue for booting up and white when it’s on (I hope Sony can expand this feature) but there are some glaring omissions and here they are: (PS4)

Most of these have already been confirmed by Sony to be in available in a future patch.

One thing that isn't good is that Netflix for example is protected by user profile.
I have a french account and a secondary Danish account with Netflix.
I cannot watch Netflix from my french account i need to log in with the Danish one.
It didn't matter on PS3, but they might improve it.

The one feature I love most on my PS4? Being able to watch Netflix, then switch back to a game and have it be exactly where I left off, then go back to Netflix (or any other app) when I want to shift focus. No closing anything or losing your progress is so nice. If I get stuck in a game I can finally consult the browser without having to close the game.

PS4: $399
Games: $59.99
No more running to my computer just to look up a hint or tip? Priceless!

Damn that's cool. Both the movie viewing and the internet. I didn't know it could do that.

Now it just needs to play movies off my PCs HDD like my 360 and I'll be one happy camper.

edit, badz149
Yes, I use the PS3 media centre and Serviio on my 360. It doesn't seem to work with my PS4

@The Meercat

ever heard of PS3 Media Center? it works like a charm on PS3 to play contents on your PC and it supports media in many formats and I use it all the time! I think it should work with the PS4 too although I'm not entirely sure about this. can anybody confirm?

Off-topic: Price of games seems even worse than usual while a Steam sale is running :(

@badz149 @The Meercat The Media Center software takes advantage of DNLA I think, which is something missing on PS4 till a future patch I believe..

@dboyman

wow, that sucks but not at all a deal breaker and I think people can wait for it to be put in upcoming FW updates.

@badz149 ever heard of Ps3 media Server? Media Center has nothing compare to it (bit exaggerated), you can play any video files you throw at it
badz149  +   601d ago
wow, can't believe they missed a huge point there. The PS3 can play PS1 and PS3 games (the original can play PS2 too) while the PS4 can't!

but I'm pretty sure the DS4 is in fact CAN be turned off, right?

and isn't Trine 2 on the PS4 has stereoscopic 3D? yeah, it is!

this article is so uninformed.

Yeah. They need to hurry the hell up with that patch, too. So many things need fixing with the UI and network in general. Especially with friends not showing up on the friends list, cross platform between PS3 and PS4. It's annoying as hell.

A quote of article:

"6: Switching The DualShock 4 Off

There isn’t a simple way to turn off the new controller!"

That's wrong! If you hold the PS Button you can log out any devices. It's the first menu point. There you can switch off the Dual Shock 4 without switching off the whole PS4.

I was just about to say this.

The 360 on the other hand is soooo simple. You just unclip the battery pack then clip it back in. I've been doing it for years while watching videos and it takes about half a second.

Personally, I'm not buying before DLNA support is added...in any case, I have plenty of games on PS3 that I need to complete and I just bough 6 new Steam games for a total of 30$...

Too many games, not enough time...

Literally all of this will be patched within a few months.
