Why The Playstation 4 and Xbox One Both Get Incomplete Grades

Gareth at Skewed and Reviewed has posted an opinion piece stating that both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One deserve incomplete grades. He states this not as a negative towards either system but rather due to the fact that pending updates and fixes as well as a shortage of top flight exclusives at launch have not allowed consumers to see what the systems are fully capable of. (PS4, Xbox One)

So glad im waiting till the end of feb before I get my PS4. More Games, Apps and Fixes before then..... Hopefully lol :D

Exactly. We will enjoy our consoles but I think this time next year is a good point to say ok you have had a year to get your bugs and fixes done. Its a new holiday shopping season what have you done game and console wise to make me either want to get one or say that I am so glad I have it.

Yep. Judging a consoles potential at launch is like judging a fine wine without giving it time to mature. Give it a good 2-3 years, let all the great exclusives come out and then make a judgement.

The PS4/X1 launches aren't perfect due to limited software and hardware issues..

Which hardware issues concern you more the Xbox One or the PS 4? We have an interview with a tech expert in our Dec magazine, and we asked him about both and he had some interesting thoughts.

I think if my PS4 was a defective one it would have burned already because I took 5 days off and had it on 95% of the time lol.

Well, more than ever in the past, these consoles can be improved quite a bit after they launch. It was possible to a certain degree last generation, but the hardware was so limited that there was only so much you could do.

Now, it's one thing if you grade it as it is at launch. I don't particularly mind that. But if you're grading them for their lifetimes, then I have to say that any judgment you make now can and should be considered an interim grade.

Completely agree with the article. Everyone's giving out grades now but really, they were just released. We should expect problems. Plus, we have barely any games out for these consoles!

So true, i was always perplexed by the idea of launch console grading as it seems to imply a "finished product" which both systems are far from right now. During the coming years both systems will receive numerous changes which makes it near impossible to predict how they will operate many years from now. System grade scores should be held after a consoles life cycle and not before i believe.

I think the main problem is lack of great games. I like PS4 the best by all means but I got Killzone: Shadow Fall and it was a great looking game. Here's the problems though I didn't like anything else much about it. Knack I want go there and the delay of Driveclub and Watch Dogs really put next gen console in a bad position. If the games were better I'd be a much better start but until at least March 2014 there's not much of a reason to get next gen consoles.

There is so much more to come that we wont even remember these UIs after a few years.. Updates, apps, services, etc will all come eventually & both systems will evolve beyond what we see here..
