Dealspwn: "The Dual Shock 4 review is coming a little later today, but before that goes live, here's one of the very best things about Sony's next-gen controller: you can stream the system's audio out through the DS4's 3.5mm headphone jack."
A cool feature no doubt. The Wii U gamepad allows you to do the same thing.
I use this feature all the time at night. I have a really good pair of headphones and I just plug them right in. The volume is decent and audio fedility is amazing... Just another reason why this is the best controller ever created.... any pair of headphones you have laying around can become gaming headphones. No Bluetooth or batteries required lol. Just plug it in the jack....
I've been using this feature a lot. I just plug in my headphones and use that for the game audio. It sounds surprisingly good.
was definitely worried it would sound like some sort of bluetooth headset, but no. it definitely sounds about as good as being wired right in.
This is a big deal for me. My personal TV doesn't have a 3.5mm audio out. I think the Touchpad is more interesting though.
I've been using my PS Elite headset like this. Waiting for an update to make it work wirelessly like the PS3 or a new headset for PS4. I had no idea I could do this until a guy from IGN mentioned it.
Theres really no point in using wireless when the controller is so close to you. Unless you really can't stand the cord going from your controller to your headset.
Both methods are great. If you don't power on the Pulse Elite, then you don't have to charge it. If you turn it on, then you get the rumble feature, but you don't get the virtual surround until it's officially supported, and you do have to charge it.
I HATE having that wire between me and the controller. I move around a lot in my chair (reclining, sitting forward, curled up with my legs underneath me, etc...) So it is constantly getting in my way or catching on something as I'm moving.
I can't wait to play The Evil Within using headphones. That is going to be intense!
Headphones instantly make scary games way scarier.
AGREED. Love this feature. That's awesome wii u has it too. Should be on all new systems. Gaming with a sleeping roommate a room over has never been so loud and awesome before.
The audio in the controller is surprisingly really immersive. When I first heard it in KZ i was like woa OK!.
I've been using my Vita earbuds and man does it sound great!
I've been using my apple earpods (wow, I hate that name) and they're incredible. Wondering how they compared with Vita headphones. (I dont have a vita)
I don't know how they both compare. Even though you don't have a Vita you can find the earbuds for under $20. They also have a mic.
Does it support the full 3D HD audio or just stereo channels?
How does this affect audio quality? I get skeptical when someone says how great they sound through their $20 earbuds.
I have tried everything to get this to work. I used my Samsung headset and my Pulse Elite and the audio does not come through the headphones. Do I need to some settings or something?
Plug in headset,go to settings> sound and screen> audio output settings> output to headphones-set to all audio. Should be good to go.
just hold the ps button -> adjust devices -> set output to all audio (not chat audio). keep in mind, this will also mute the dualshock external speaker and have that audio pipe straight into your headphones as well (in my case, thankfully!)
I plug the DS4 right into my game chair. Its awesome.
Very nice feature indeed
After reading the title I thought it was going to be about the touch pad lol. But yeah, the audio out capability of the DS4 is a godsend. I would have been stuck with my tv speakers otherwise. Full support of the Pulse Elite can't come soon enough. I actually wouldn't mind if Sony created an even better version of the Pulse headset with native 7.1 support and a better battery.
