PS3 Users Locked Offline after Forced Password Reset

Sony have reset an amount of EU PlayStation Network passwords, forcing users to choose something new before they can re-access online features. That's inconvenient enough, but they've done it on such a scale that there's a huge backlog of people waiting for password change emails, and Sony has no idea when they'll be caught up.

Update:

In some regions, you're not able to change your password directly through the PS3. If you even see this as a solution, you're not in a region where the email backlog is causing problems.

Those in regions where this IS a problem: still no word on when the backlog will start to be cleared.

Sony should outsource all network related work and infrastructure to somebody more capable, like Valve. SEN/PSN is a joke of a network relative to the best in the business.

reynod1462d ago

SEN/PSN is run by a bunch of monkeys.

With attention deficit diso...oooh look, a butterfly!

And Trolls have no life what-so-ever.

ShinMaster1462d ago

Haven't had any problems with PSN. Not sure what you're talking about.

Evil_Abed1462d ago

Really? Are you new to PSN?
The downtime during scheduled maintenance?
The s l o w download speeds when updating directly through PSN?
The getting hacked to shreds and compromising people's information?
The getting locked out of your account while they deal with reset backlog?
The s l o w new store?

All good with you? Maybe try Steam or XBL to see how a gaming network ought to be run.

ColeMacGrath1462d ago

@GGJ I bet you can't spell "slow" without spaces.

kreate1461d ago

I also didn't have any problems.

I do want to experience the problem though so I can come complain w the other ppl here.

ShinMaster1461d ago (Edited 1461d ago )

@ GGJ

""Scheduled maintenance""
Really? It's like 1 hour and in many cases you're not kicked offline. At least they're scheduling the maintenance. What a whiner.

""Slow download speeds""
Maybe on PS3. Not on PS4 or Vita. Besides, updates take like 6 minutes on PS3 and 1 on PS4. It's a lot faster than the average Windows update.

""Getting hacked""
Sony already rebuilt its network infrastructure and security since then. What do you think they were doing on that month? lol

""Getting locked out of your account""
Never happened to me or most people. Ironically, it happened to me on Steam. Thankfully I had only gotten Portal 2 for free and hadn't made any purchases yet.

""The slow new store""
Again, maybe on PS3, but it's pretty fast on PS4.

And no thanks :) Try not trolling next time.

Locked out!? A bit over dramatic don't you think, all you do is change your password and you're back online!
I'm not gonna defend them though, I was the first person I know to get this a few days back and it did worry me. I think Sony need to tell the absolute truth about this one and if they're gonna do mandatory password updates then they at least need to let people know in advance!

matgrowcott1462d ago (Edited 1462d ago )

I don't think you've read past the first sentence. They've done it on such a scale that they have a backlog of people who can't change their password.

They can't do it over the phone, they can't do it via PC, they can't do it via their console.

They have to just wait for the backlog to clear. Sony don't know how long that is going to take. That means there are hundreds of people who are literally locked out of their accounts. They've had their password changed without warning or permission and can't physically change it back.

SniperControl1462d ago (Edited 1462d ago )

Some people are waiting for the email from Sony, DONT!!
Just click password reset, i was able to change my password in minutes & gaming within 5.

@below

I could not access anything, PS3, PSVita, SEN. Loads of my mates had the same problem, it took them minutes to reset.

matgrowcott1462d ago

@SniperControl

Not really sure what you're getting at. It's all coming through the same server. If you were able to change your password, you were unaffected by this.

Budobear1462d ago (Edited 1462d ago )

Read the article, its states there is a backlog of e-mails if you haven't got an e-mail and can't get on you can just change your password yourself.......if you know what the problem is.
I wasn't aware of the issue until I read this, this morning. It was sorted out in about 2 minutes though when I knew what the problem is.

matgrowcott1462d ago

@SniperControl

Again. If you and your mates could get through without issue, you are unaffected.

There are people who ARE affected, and there are a lot of us. Your being able to sort things out doesn't make that any less true.

slimeybrainboy1462d ago

I think I've been screwed. I dont have access to the email account on my PSN anymore, and they wouldnt let me change my email to my current one because it's the same as name as my PSN.

Yesterday i found myself "kicked" from the PSN. It said that my ID or pasword were wrong. I started checking online if someone else had the same problem, then i thought osmeone hacked my account. I went on the site and clicked the "Forgot my password" thing. Got the mail, changed pass, restarted using the PSN. In about 5 mins i was done. But i didn't get any mail or warning, and i didn't like that.

matgrowcott1462d ago

It seems you've been lucky. I was read an official internal email over the phone after passwords for two of my accounts were changed on Wednesday and it said to expect problems throughout the week.

I've been told this morning that, after 48 hours, they still can't guarantee that I'll be able to change my password any time soon.

Shakengandulf1462d ago

Yep, 5mins is all it took for me.
No one on my list has had any issues either.

ShinnokDrako1462d ago (Edited 1462d ago )

Who disagreed with me? I mean, what's there to disagree about? I expect some kind of explanation, otherwise i think it's just another idiotic xbot.
I don't think i praised or bashed anything, i just said that i changed my password. So, according to someone, i had to stay offline and be happy? Oh well, sad people are sad.

SniperControl1462d ago

Mate, there are some petty people on here, dont worry about it. I was able to change my password in minutes, didnt get an email either.

Problem is, fanboys like to make mountains out of molehils.

andibandit1462d ago

I guess people have a problem seeing how your situation has anything to do with those affected.

XANDEO1462d ago

Was wondering why I had to change my password yesterday, changed it easy enough though.
