Where Does The Wii U Fit In?

Sean Halliday of Pixel Gate writes:

''With the holiday season fast approaching, as well as the next generation of gaming hardware, people are digging deep into their wallets. Whether it’s parents buying for children or people buying for themselves, Christmas always marks a rise in hardware sales. The big hitters this year will undoubtedly be the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo’s 3DS/2DS. The question, however, is where does the Wii U fit in?''

Same here, it'll bemy secondary console for Nintendo franchises this gen. Everything else will be played on PS4.

I think it fits in nicely. PS4 and xbox are trying harder than ever to be more like PC which puts them in competition with not just each other but actual PCs and the upcoming steam box. Both with much more gaming options.

Meanwhile lil ol nintendo is making a game console. They aren't changing much and staying more traditional game console. Wii U allowed you to share games before ps4 did, nintendo had a system that worked offline anyhow before either of teir rivals did a 180 on the subject, only system with backward compatibility for not just games but peripherals too.

It's taking the ps2 angle like wii did last gen. Affordable and versatile hardware that may not be as powerful as the competitors but is unique. Oddly, all this stuff is what will make nintendo's options different this gen. It will probably keep them in the running too as a pure console gamer's system option among wanna be (and actual)PCs.

Even if 3rd parties don't make all their multiplats for it it's a system that can still look forward to HD games from a legendary developer. Something people have been asking for for a long time.

It fits in just under my TV.

Pixelgate1764d ago

Oooooof! I see what you did there :)

If you get a tv bigger than your 19", size of things wont matter. My 60" has more real estate than I can even use up.

Next to my PC and future PS4,all equally important gaming devices.

Don't forget Xbox one. We're all gamers here. Here's a bubble.

Certainly but i don't plan on getting an xboxone, at least not for a long time, but for those who are it certainly becomes a 1/4 split.

With the release of the new mario game & upcoming zelda... i think the wiii u just might be relevant after all. Picking up one nxt year.

"Where does the Wii U fit in?" My store had to move it to the back to make room for the PS4 and XB1. No love for Nintendo.

I think what Nintendo needs to do is release something just like the VitaTV, except it plays Virtual Console games. I'd buy one of those.
