Assassin's Creed 4 producer says PC optimisation isn't important

Optimising games to run more efficiently on PC hardware isn't important, Assassin's Creed 4 associate producer Sylvain Trottier has claimed.

"It's always a question of compromise about the effect, how it looks, and the performance it takes from the system. On PC, usually you don't really care about the performance, because the idea is that if it's not [running] fast enough, you buy a bigger GPU. Once you get on console, you can't have this approach."

Wow, nice out of context title. The quality of submissions on N4G sure is astounding these days.

RickHiggity1461d ago

That's how journalism is a lot of the time. What crazy fantasy world are you from?

Autodidactdystopia1461d ago

I don't think ive ever particularly liked anything ubi has put out on pc.

If its not crazy drm its something else.

Ubisoft has been dead to me since splinter cell original. crap come to think of it im not even sure ubi made the original did they?

MidnytRain1461d ago (Edited 1461d ago )

He's still a jackhole for saying that. "Buy better (read: more expensive) hardware so our game doesn't run like s**t. Problem solved!"

decrypt1461d ago

With the quality of UBI games at all time lows, specially lolcreed is just a rehash. No point buying an unoptimized mess.

Hell its not just PC games coming unoptimized these days, many console games are in the same situation. Its all about patching it later these days.

Personally after the disaster Rome 2 was, i have decided to stop preordering any games.

DeadlyFire1461d ago

indeed. haha. Now I know its officially Ubisoft's stance on PC games. Oh yeah we didn't optimize it because you can buy a new graphics card and it will be fine.

Magicite1461d ago

my friend has got HD7970, i5 3570k OC and 8GB of corsair RAM, but he gets below 30fps most of time even at mid-high settings. Game is terribly unoptimized.

duplissi1461d ago

I have a FX 8350 (4.34Ghz O/C), and a 7950, 8GB of 1866 ram, and I play it on ultra with FXAA as my selected AA. My average fps is in the high 40s. if I use other AA options it will tank to below 30. Screen resolution is 1080p.

Grave1461d ago

Lol what?. He pretty much said if the game doesnt run right on PC buy better hardware. That is just BS lazy dev talk. Title is in context.

webeblazing1461d ago

this is what happen when you support half a$$ devs that release half a$$ games. I franchise is over rated just like they are

And here is a respectful game company showing all their respect to the PC gamers, ladies and gentleman. Kudos Ubisoft. /s

AC4 does run like a three legged horse. Still it's a very fun game (unlike the insomnia cure that was AC3). Such a shame because splinter cell blacklist ran like a champ.

Ravenor1461d ago

You can thank Jade Raymond and Ubisoft Toronto for their awesome work on the Blacklist PC port. Granted it still needed a patch to work, but hey at least they tried.

Adexus1462d ago

Change the title before people complain left and right without reading the actual article where the producer never stated such a thing.

Brawler1461d ago

Pretty close though he did say this "On PC, usually you don't really care about the performance, because the idea is that if it's not [running] fast enough, you buy a bigger GPU. Once you get on console, you can't have this approach."

Pretty much saying if its runs like crap buy new hardware

kB01461d ago (Edited 1461d ago )

Which is what's wrong with PC developers. I remember when I had the 8800 GTS that thing was beast for 4 years...ran almost every properly optimized game sometimes even maxed!

Now it's like, hey lets through in forced v-sync or frame caps..and let's tell pc gamers to upgrade their hardware because they don't pay enough already....

I hate the gaming industry and everything it's become.

I use to buy indie games because those were true devs, but now even they are a bunch of assholes that never keep their promises. I thought Steam's early access was a good thing at first, now it'sjust an excuse to cash in quick and maybe finish the product.

Also what happened to indie games being 15$ max? Now they are starting at 15....early access...

I shouldn't need to upgrade my hardware every 3 months to play a game. If this is the way PC devs want to treat us, I'll gladly start pirating their games again.

Bullshit that why im not going buy AC4 day one maybe after few path!! Fuck them!! There is many more games to play!! For example State of Decay on PC😃
