The Top Ten Opening Scenes in Video Game History

Ray Porreca of Entertainment Buddha writes: "From nailing down atmosphere, to introducing characters and setting the scene, the best opening scenes in video game history have the power to stay with you long after the game has been turned off." (Batman: Arkham Asylum, BioShock, Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut, Demon's Soul, Final Fantasy VII, Half-Life 2, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, PC, PS3, Resident Evil: Code Veronica X HD, The Last Of Us, Xbox 360)

My best openings in a video game include: "Final Fantasy VIII, Metal Gear Solid 3, Devil May Cry 3, BioShock 1, BioShock: Infinite, Final Fantasy X..."

You should check out Onimusha 3's opening if you haven't already, definitely one of the best in video game history.

The one where you had to walk around and basically watch a movie for 10 minutes before you get to do anything resembling gameplay?

FF7....REALLY?

Come on man

I know you might think it all comes down to opinion but the majority of "Top - Lists" on here, when it includes something FF related, is ALWAYS FF7...even if other FF games did something better then it.

We all know FF8 had a better opening.

It's that nostalgia love affair the industry has with VII. It wasn't a bad game, by any means, but I think it's too high up in the rankings, generally speaking.

VIII's opening was SO much better. The best in FF, and arguably one of the best in all of gaming. But because it's not VII, it gets the shaft.

And not that bad mother-shut yo mouth Shaft, either.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Omega Boost from the old PS1 days. Not to mention the original Silent Hill.

****SPOILERS****

Not really. Introducing and killing off a character in the first 10 minutes of a game is a little try-hard.
