During the latest Shareholders' meeting Microsoft showcased the new Kinect for Xbox One, its ability to recognize and execute voice commands and its interaction with the dashboard in a rather extensive demonstration.
@1:57 Discovery channel doing football now
It's a nice little gimmick and all, but it's something I will never use. I consider voice commands on my phone useful when I'm driving or at work. A controller is all you need when in the comfort of your own home. But nevertheless, I will be picking up the Xbone this weekend.
You'll be able to use your xbox one while driving :D
Reminds me of 29/5/2013.
Yeah gimmick my azz, it's a really cool feature but if ps4 could do it THEN it would be the best thing since sliced bread.
@Jokes The PS4 can do voice commands, and the camera is not even needed. I could care less about it, but I'm sure a patch could give even more options for the PS4, it seems that a future update may be needed for the One too, so that you don't have to repeat yourself, so that you don't have to repeat yourself, so that you... ( I'm sure you get the sarcasm by now)
So what happens if someone is talking in the background? do you have to be like ''can you guys STFU! so I can use my Xbone voice commands!!!'' Using a controller is much more efficient than having to repeat a voice command 2 or 3 times.
No its, not really. I use voice commands on the 360 to pause and start videos all the time. If im getting up for a comfort break or to get a drink, its easier just sating xbox pause, then xbox play when i come back rather than grabbing the controller from the coffee table and turning it on as its usually turned itself off by then. So there are great benefits to using kinect for voice commands
Nice gimmick?! Made me cringe seeing him having to repeat himself. Than waiting to see if the command actually took, Not convenient.
Worst attempt at sarcasm ever.... Do you even understand the meaning of sarcasm?
Looks great to me. I can't wait to play around with this dash.
that was definitely funny...
That was embarrassing
It works and you don't got it! Nanah nanah nanah!
It really works, want to watch ESPN? Just use the secret code word "Discovery Channel" 3 times. My TV remote is jealous
Well only if you expect perfection. I own a ps3 and a 360 and every console before those(except win u)....guess what?.. they all have stalled, frozen, glitches in game, failed to connect online when all my other devices were connected, signed me out, etc, etc but it is indeed a rare occurrence. I FULLY EXPECT KINECT AND X1 TO NOT WORK PERFECTLY ALL THE TIME, none of my consoles ever did, my cell phone doesn't, my laptop doesn't and my Samsung Galaxy tablet didnt (broken now, I still highly recommend it over iPads). I'm sure there will be plenty of vids from every in individual who has a problem but that's fine with me, UNLESS the experience is diminished by constantly repeating maybe every few commands like 2 out 10 or something like that then I say it's great for me because I wasn't expecting it to be perfect. Show me any software/device/feature that never glitches.
Heavy you are like many fanboys just trying way too hard. Kinect works but yeah it will mess up, but again fanboys are the same people who notice a beautiful woman has a ugly toenail.
I could never use this. One of my biggest pet peeves is having to repeat myself. That is why i don't have any kids.
haters gonna hate, looking forward to the new kinect.
Xbox, go home. Xbox, go home... Xbox, go home...... You don't normally have a mic on your face when sitting at home, so I'm going to try this one more time. Xbox, go ho- *boom* HEADSHOT DISCOVERY CHANNEL NOW PLAYS FOOTBALL, WUT?! J/K, but really, I've seen much better presentations from MS than this.
Looking forward to picking up my XBO this Friday, and, hell, I'm even excited to try out the voice recognition of Kinect, but that demonstration was awful. "Xbox :Go to: Discovery channel" - Xbox shows football (ESPN?). WTF? Doesn't dampen my excitement because I have seen it work better but, again, that demonstration was awful.
my xbox one will hear me fine because my Tv is only about 2 or 3 feet away from me in my dorm Disagrees? Sorry I'm not gonna bash the x1 like you want me to :-)
lol, at the disagrees. you would think the Sony fanboys would be gaming on their new console.
Last Thursday you would have thought so...but according to all the game reviews....
They can't PSN crashed and their are too many blinking blue and red lights on their console to see the TV screen. Just a joke, not trolling. I seriously feel bad for anyone with any console that craps out.
people, you do realized that this presentation was in a auditorium. The original kinect voice control just fine so I don't why Kinect 2.0 want do the same.
Considering they were trying to market xbox one to buisnesses you would think it would be optemised to run in an auditorium
>implying that every business has an auditorium When you say business, it's reasonable to think big (like Apple, Sony, MS, whatever) but it makes more sense that they were talking about small businesses.
Actually it was implying that some buisness' s have audatoriums... surely if your selling your device as savvy for buisness you would be as inclusive as possible and have it so it can work well in auditoriums also.
...jeez...just push the button already...
I'm wondering why, if xbox has such confidence in this device, they felt the need to justify it to investors.... seems like they are feeling a little nervous about the spinning off rumors floating around @kenny That's not true, I am just trying to wrap my head around the thinking here. Investors invest because they are already impressed with a product... impressing them again is to aleviate any doubts in my mind. Seems there must be doubters within microsoft
If you invest in something, Don't you wanna know how is going to work, how is going to make you money?
I would think it logical to show a demonstration to get investors sure! But a week before launch when the money is already invested feels like they are trying to justify it to keep the invested money in the product... This late in the game one would let sales and reviews do the talking at release
@king, I think the only logical thing is you trying to hate on Microsoft.
King dude...just leave the thread. ..lol
The best part about using kinect is when your doing something else and want to set up a game while your finishing up working on something. I'm just about finished cleaning up the living room so I say "Xbox on". I am putting the vacuum away and say "Xbox play Ryse". I'm walking over to the couch and say "Xbox play Battlefield 4" because I see that my brother just signed on and I want to play some MP with him. As BF4 is loading up I find my controller, sit down, and send an invite to my brother. Kinect works. Just not in every situation.
Unless my eyes deceive, that demo was awful. I'm not surprised tho as the original Kinect is the same, constantly having to repeat myself , the Kinect is female for sure. ( sorry ladies :D )
I live in an apartment not an auditorium so I'm guessing Kinect may work a little better for me. Also I won't be speaking into a microphone which then broadcasts the voice to the Kinect.
