Shin'en has some great news for Fast Racing Neo fans. The eShop game uses "4-8K textures", which means it will produce "hyper real graphics".
Sounds great. Shin'en really knows how to produce those 'wow' visuals while keeping sizes down. I can't wait to see some gameplay from this one.
These guys obviously know how to supercharge the performance of the Wii U using its large amount of super fast Edram. I'm going to assume what they mean is that they are supersampling using 4K textures in 1080p which will still look amazing. Mark Cerny resently talked about supersampling in regards to streaming video from the PS4 to the Vita (displaying higher res video on a screen with a lower resolution making it look better) The Wii U Gamepad also does this and that's why it looks so nice even though the screen displays in a sub HD resolution.
Less talking, more showing, ok? :3 Also, I don't have the slightest clue what "4-8k textures" means. Anyone in the know to explain it to me in dumb terms, please?
This is Shin'nen we are talking about here. All of there games in the past proves what they can do.
I know they have a proven track record. I'm just asking two things, one, to show us the game instead of just talking about it, and two, an explanation regarding the 4-8k textures.
4'k resolution textures... 3840 pixels × 2160
Texture resolutions are different from display resolutions.
It's the size of the texture. 512x256, 1024x512, etc. 4k is usually 4096x2048, double that for 8k. Larger size means less compression and higher quality. Here's some examples. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-a... http://s.pro-gmedia.com/vid... http://s.pro-gmedia.com/vid...
Thanks! I think I understand it now. I guess 4k-8k textures is above the norm when it comes to game textures?
Yeah as far as last gen goes (PS3/360/Wii) 4k/8k is much higher. The consoles didn't have enough video RAM to be able to display textures of that size.
8k textures are of movie quality you can make COD look real using that resolution in textures....wiiu is a beast graphically...
Wow and just a decade ago Xbox 512X512 was considered hi res textures.
inb4 comments regarding whether or not Wii U is next-gen and how this proves/disproves it based on comparisons to the other two, despite the fact that gens are defined by sequence, not specs. Now that that's out of the way; good on ya, Shin-en. I know you're not doing F-Zero, but I think Fast Racing Neo just might be a really good hold-over title till a new F-Zero DOES get made by whoever Nintendo puts to the task. My wallet is waiting, Shin'en. Just get the game done and you can dig in.XD
I was so excited to see that they were working on this project. I agree that this is definitely a gap filler until we get the real F-Zero. Who knows, maybe Nintendo is secretly giving Shin'en the opportunity to prove themselves with this game knowing that if they do a great job Nintendo may hand over the F-Zero franchise and some publishing money to make a full blown game happen.
Shin'en blew me away with their 3 Wiiware titles. Seriously, those THREE measly titles look better than 95% of the system's retail library. I have no doubts that between them, Nintendo and Nintendo's second-parties ~ some really dazzling visuals will erupt.
Nano Assault Neo is still my favorite eShop title on Wii U. Can't wait to see this new game in action.
They've also stated that the car on the teaser site is an in-game model. Something along the lines of them being too small to waste time on a target render type image. It's buried in their twitter feed somewhere. *shrug* Day 1 for me. I've been playing a bunch of the original F-Zero lately so this will definitely hold me over until there is a new game in the franchise....IF there is one anyway. Either way...Shin'en is about to melt some eyeballs.
Yeah they said that they are too small of a studio to produce marketing renders and such. So that car is using the in game engine. Nano Assault looked fantastic and that was only using 1 core and barely utilizing the Wii U to it's fullest. Now let's see what they can do when they put their foots down fully on the gas pedal.
Look 8k textures are on pc games at max and is the highest texture resolution around and with WiiU supporting textures that high let me say 3rd partys step up your game because this can make any game look good but you use lots of memory using these texture resolutions but wow wiiu is defo nextgen...i think project cars wiiu uses these too.
