George Romero, essentially the “father” of the contemporary zombie mythology and director of the 1968 film, Night of the Living Dead (along with its numerous sequels), spoke candidly about the state of Zombies in popular culture, including video games, and why he refuses to touch them.

They aren't being used right. DayZ is probably the only example of the direction they should have gone in. And the Walking Dead game of course. Though that might not be what it is without the over-saturation.
