Killer Instinct - Xbox One Review | GamesBeat

Killer Instinct arguably picks up the slack this year as one of the most exciting fighting game revivals yet. Not only does it stick to its roots by going all-in on the ridiculous, testosterone-laden ultraviolence that it had in the ’90s, but it also improves on some its basic gameplay mechanics that just didn’t work back in the day. (Killer Instinct, Xbox One) 80/100

Sounds fun.

It definitely is. I had the game to myself for about 20 minutes and was practicing combos. The fighting system is so easy to pick up and play but is deep at the same time.

Nice. Are the controls very responsive? Sometimes when you play a fighting game and you're doing a combo, it's like you have to press the button multiple times to get the timing correct for one hit. Sorry if this sounds confusing.

The game looks fun.

@solid

The controls are VERY responsive. The game instills a lot of confidence in you right from the start about pulling off combos.

It feels very natural and beat em up veterans and newbies will get accustomed to it straight away.

Not much of a KIller Instinct fan (I remember it more for its cabinet art than the actual gameplay), but I'll give this a try

I think you get Jago character for Free...it cant hurt your pockets that bad. If you like it pay $20 for all 8 characters.

I mean $20 with more content to come is great price.

Its a fighting game, GAMEPLAY trumps.

double helix did a fantastic job considering their past record and time constraints it seems that its low scores are from a lack of content which is fair even though in a year from now this will be a thing of the past. For $20 though this is a steal cant wait to pick it up... good job DH and Ms!

For $20 I don't think there should have been as big a knock on content, it defined a season structure. I am disappointed that reviewers didn't take this into account when comparing it with $60 fighting games.

First off most fighting games have been selling for $40 new for most of the generation.

8 characters (2 of which have a TBA release date) for $20 should be a knock on content. And $40 for the characters, the old game, and unlocking costumes are all knock worthy.

KI was one of the XBO games I was looking forward to, but this is M$ at its best trying to nickel and dime it's consumers every way possible.

Now you have no reason to get the XboxOne, will this be the last review you venture?

I doubt it..

@kewlkat007

I said this is one of the XBO games I was looking forward to, not the only one.

This kind of structure makes sense in a episodic game like The Walking Dead, but not a fighter. Their basically saying it's okay to make a fighting game with 12 characters and charge $60 for it (at $5 a piece). You can be fine and happy with getting nickeled and dime'd. That's you. I; however, will not support this, before it becomes an industry standard, for Capcom, Temco, Team Ninja and more.

Some of these so called "gamers" are just so simple minded.

There will be 24 characters, way more levels, modes and such included through three seasons. They have said on their stream that alot of free stuff is coming in updates.

I'm really hearing many review just complain about the rooster and the lack of characters on launch , yet all praise the gameplay
pacostacos  +   592d ago
pretty much
Eldyraen  +   592d ago
They added a rooster? I always thought the roster was bit limited but now am sold on it.
Raistlinhawke  +   592d ago
Huh, much better than I had anticipated, excellent!

Interested in this one to see how it develops going forward. It was at the Xbox Tour event in Philly...looked good.
