2014: Wii U’s Year to Shine

The Wii U is currently on a path of recover, which is mostly in-part due to the September 20th price drop that happened earlier this Fall. Nintendo has miraculously managed to actually get the system moving in Europe and even Japan, which prior to this season was an extremely difficult task for the company.

But it’s going to take more than one successful holiday season to consider the system officially in the clear. As we saw with the first 45 days of the Wii U’s life, the system sold extremely well. But once 2013 rolled around, it sunk faster than Rosie O’Donnel in a swimming pool. So no system is ever automatically set to succeed all because it has isolated moments of glory. (Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Shin-Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Super Smash Bros. 4, Wii U, X, Yarn Yoshi, Zelda Wii U)

I doubt we'll see 3 of this titles next year X, SMT x FE and Zelda U.
Concertoine  +   255d ago
unfortunately me neither, not sure why people disagree.
X will take a while to localize and we havent seen any of SMT x FE since it was announced almost a year ago. zelda U will definitely be a 2015 release since we probably won't see any of it until e3 2014

I dont worry about the disagrees, but yes Im not getting my hopes up for those games coming out next year even more when Nintendo said that they are only showing Zelda at E3 nothing else. SMT X FE we havent even seen nothing on it, now X that one might be early 2015.
Metallox  +   255d ago
Satoru Iwata said that X will be released for Wii U in 2014, even in the Western Nintendo E3 Direct, but, who knows. As for SMT x Fire Emblem and Zelda U, yeah, I'm completely sure they'll arrive in 2015.

I don't know what you mean by "take a while to localize" in regards to X.
It's not likely to be the same situation as Xenoblade; Nintendo has been actively including this in state-side Nintendo Directs before this point, unlike Xenoblade. It's more likely that they'll be making a state-side version of X a priority this time around.

@wonderful
still, this is a dense jrpg we're talking about. tons to translate and tons of voice acting. could come out the same year in america, we'll see.

X was confirmed for 2014.
deafdani  +   254d ago
I think X has a possibility of being released next year, seeing how Nintendo confirmed it for 2014.

SMT x FE, very unlikely.

Zelda U, I agree with you. Definitely not happening next year.

I really want Wii U to succeed, its a very good console, cool gamepad and games (indies and not), I really hope that it will pick up this holliday season with Mario 3D world or if not with smash bros and mario kart, all of these are killer apps, same I wish to next gen consoles and handhelds
RPG_Lover  +   255d ago
3ds had a killer year 2 and wii u will be the same
thomasmiller  +   255d ago
Yes, the wii u is going to pick up with super mario 3d, and here is another video, the cat suit can turn into a gold statue, and you can take a clone away from another player!! this game just does not stop, with the amount of stuff you can do! Game of the year in my eyes!! cannot wait to get it!!, watch the video for your self!! http://www.youtube.com/watc...

With the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One happening, I don't see the Wii U being successful this year.
RPG_Lover  +   255d ago
Wii u is successful where it counts, A quality experience
Concertoine  +   255d ago
whether or not the system is successful in 2014 is up for debate, but one thing is for sure, it will definitely have some damn good games.
LOL_WUT  +   255d ago
Let's see how well the WiiU performs this holiday season before we get ahead of ourselves so far super Mario 3d world is looking to be a big hit. ;)
JackieCruise69  +   255d ago
May or may not succeed, but as long as those games get released, I'll be happy. I have practically all those games on my list. X, Bayonetta 2, and SSBU are day ome buys for me.
RPG_Lover  +   255d ago
I love my wii u

Nintendo is pretty smart in reality they moved key titles around to give themselves an early push.

1. Super Mario 3D world to end the year.
2. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Early next year.
3. Mario Kart 8 Early Next year
4. Super Smash Bros Early to mid next year.
5. Bayonetta 2 Next year.
6. Zelda Wii U Possible Next year
7. X
8. Wii Sports Games

Those are 8 reasons why it's good to be a fan of Nintendo also games that Miyamota is working on. Also I have a feeling that Nintendo will have a bunch of unannounced projects showcased.

Look at it this way in 30 plus years Nintendo doesn't boast or show their hand the only reason we know about the games now is because they got pressured.
Thepcz  +   254d ago
its all a case of been there done that.

nintendo are playing it so safe. how about a new major ip for wiiu? something to make the wiiu memorable?

and lets be frank, besides beyonetta and X, all those games are for children.

what about the gamer with more mature sensibilities. this is why sony/microsoft are always going to win in many respects.
leemass24  +   254d ago
then you could say same for the ps4 that there playing it safe, knack kids game also, and mature games so why whenever i play cod or bf do i hear little 13year old girls (boys) screaming down their microphones, also killzone, infamous and announcing uncharted, arnt playing it safe? i like all consoles but come on man look at the whole picture and all 3 of those titles i mentioned, like you said been there done that.

I agree that it would be nice to see Nintendo try something other than the safe releases they've been putting out of late. But don't confuse cute/simplistic presentation with "for children" - Nintendo games are generally far more playable and nuanced than your average photo-realistic derpfighter.
SpiralTear  +   254d ago
It's extremely easy to completely ruin the validity of your argument when you bring up the "Nintendo games are for children" card, man...
