Avoiderdragon: As more indie developers put increasing effort into more action platformers, they’ve been exploring more themes and mechanics in a genre that is all about flashy moves and adrenaline. We’ve had titles like Shank, Strider, and so on. Rain Blood Chronicles: Mirage seeks to do even more with its own visuals and gameplay, but with more focus on quality rather than just quantity.
Told as a “Wuxia” story, which literally means "martial hero", Mirage captures the essence of a broad genre of Chinese fiction concerning the adventures of martial artists.
Shrouded in secrecy, an organization of assassins wreak havoc on the local populace. Two assassins Soul and Shang, find a window of opportunity to strike while all their enemies can be found in one place. Their mission is simple: take down all their enemies or die in the attempt. They will face many challenges and discover lost secrets as they embark on a perilous journey against terrible odds.
Rain Blood Chronicles: Mirage is traditional Chinese story (ancient Chinese architect, fashion, music, language, etc). An old man (I’m assuming he is, because he has that distinct “old man” sound, and the game never shows his face) tells his granddaughter (I’m also assuming for the same reasons) the tale of two distinct young friends: Soul and Shang. Soul is young, brash, and headstrong, while Shang is calm, collective and philosophical. They both belong to a martial arts clan called Cabal. The group hasn’t been around for very long (about 30 years), but they’ve made such an impact, that it attracts the attention of Mirage, the leading antagonist. We don’t see Mirage’s face until the very end, but he does start causing chaos all over China to the point in which he kills Soul and Shang’s friend, Jade. So they’re basically out for revenge and to stop Mirage from causing even more chaos.
