With 1 million units sold on Day 1, PS4 is probably the fastest console launch of all times

Many people have said "consoles are dead". With increasing fragmentation (steam, PC gaming, mobile games, Ouya...), and the apparently unstoppable demise of Nintendo, it was clear to some that "dedicated gaming machines" were a thing of the past.

They were apparently wrong.

The article compares the sales of several generations of consoles in the US, and how the PS4 is setting a new record.

The story is too old to be commented.
GarrusVakarian980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

Just proves that console gaming is as big as ever and is going NOWHERE. Happy gaming everyone.

1 millions PS4's SOLD in a single day in the USA alone http://images.wikia.com/adv...

The_Villager980d ago

Yeah but how many of those consoles have already been returned due to hardware issues?

GarrusVakarian980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

Ugh, you again.......

Compared to the ONE MILLION sold?........a TINY fraction, that's how many. But i bet you wish it was more widespread than it actually is, don't you? You expect a 0% failure rate? Sorry, there's no such thing.

OrangePowerz980d ago

A small amount of consoles have issues. People need to stop pretending it's a huge amount of consoles that would be broken.

Cuzzo63980d ago

Very little you troller. U think xb1 is gonna have a flawless launch. Never!

HardcoreDaBoss980d ago

come on man... the failure rate as far as we know right now is 1% or less.. And In electronics that is amazing.

Chuk5980d ago

I have had 6 360s.

SIX.

linkenski980d ago

No wonder you only have one bubble.

patsrule316980d ago

@gribblegrunger

I thought the expected failure rate number from Sony was 0.4%, not 0.04%.

That is one out of every 250, as opposed to one out of every 2,500.

boldscot980d ago

Your name is almost perfect, it should read "The_Village_Idiot".

Dude Dutch980d ago

I guess its one too many.

MasterCornholio980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

You actually believe that over 500,000 consoles were defective?

WOW your not very smart.

@Dgander

LOL your just jealous that Sony sold over a million consoles in just 24 hours. I like to the the Xbox One do the same thing.

Dgander980d ago

Its not a small about of bricked consoles. Stop damage controlling this disaster. That 0.4% was a random number yoshida pull out his ass from the 4000 Taco Bell PS4s before it officially launched. Amazon and Gamestop has an almost 40% failure rate and it has nothing to do with packaging. We can SEE evidence on Amazon not just call a random number. You Sony Ponies were so busy trolling anything about the Xbone you failed to realize your favourite console was cheap wobbly trash. Its cheap faulty parts in a overheating console.

GarrusVakarian980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

@Dgander

Ugh, not you as well. Amazon doesn't have a 40% failure rate......40% of the people who bothered to give FEEDBACK on their purchases reported failure. If it was 40% of the entire amount of PS4 buyers from amazon.....there would be more than 205 1 star ratings on the feedback page lol.

And that ladies and gents are why misleading article titles are dangerous.

Anyone who thinks im just damage controlling, heres the article:
http://www.cinemablend.com/...

Check the title....then check what the article is actually talking about....BUYERS WHO GAVE FEEDBACK....not 40% of total buyers lmao. Some people SMH. Research what you are actually commenting about before spewing poison around the internet.

That's it, disagree with me, because all that shows is how angry you are at being proven wrong.

GrandTheftZamboni980d ago

@The_Villager

He who goes to bed with butt hurt, wakes up with smelly fingers.

GiggMan980d ago

Lol. You want it to be a lot don't you?

LOL_WUT980d ago

The PS4 is going to surpass the WiiU this holiday season no doubt about it. Someone is just worried villager... ;)

christrules0041980d ago

You know when a company mass produces a product there is going to be faulty units. Any new electronical product has that problem.

frostypants980d ago

Not too many. The echo chamber makes everything seem worse than it is. I don't know anyone personally with a faulty console.

frostypants980d ago

@patsrule316

You are right...it's .4%. But that's still a more than acceptable number for any launch product in the consumer electronics industry.

awesomeabe1998980d ago

You guys do know that there is a possibility that he was just asking and not making fun of the console?

Those are really good numbers, but XB1 will get around the same amount sold the first day. Launch doesnt tell you everything because everyone who pre-ordered the PS4 got it day one.

Black Friday is going to be huge for gaming consoles, especially the Wii U. I can see PS4 selling more than Wii U short term but there arent many exclusives for it. It may go through the same drought the Wii U went through.

In early 2014, one of the few games coming out for PS4 is Watch Dogs. Wii U has around 5 games announced for 2014 that are Exclusives only. With exclusion of Miyamotos new IP and SMTxFE and Zelda U.

I am a Nintendo and Playstation gamer, so dont be offended when i say: PS4 is doing great, Wii U will pick up, and both will pass the XB1 in sales. hahahaha

GoodnessGreatness980d ago

A measly number of consoles. This isn't the RROD scenario like the Xbox One fool.

Gridloc980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

Why hasn't Microsoft ever put up their RROD numbers? Yet Sony has no problem putting up numbers, butt most seem to be coming from amazon.

kenshiro100980d ago

Oh bloody noes, a very low hardware failure rate! Whatever shall we do?
You trolls are absolutely pathetic.

http://community.us.playsta...

Oh yea, waiting for the biggest defenders on this site to say I wrote all of these posts on sony forums and on amazon.

Dgander980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

Thats what they do because they are deluded. All their trolling, trash talk and ignorance finally caught up to them. Its hilarious first they deny the 40% is real and in another news thread they blame Amazon (admitting its real and not realizing it). They even go as far as blaming Xbone buyers for the bricked PS4s on Amazon as if thats virtually possible. Delusion to the maximum lmao. Which is is Sony Ponies? Is is Amazon's packaging fault or is it the small percentage yosh lied about?

Sevir980d ago

As per usual, the peanut gallery is hoping for the worst!

Tell me Ballseye, Dgander, on a Scale of Bland to Mc.Donalds fries, how salty are you?

Keep grasping for straws, the XBO is less than a week away, best believe it'll have it's share of problems... Remember MS's 33% failure rate with the 360. MS isn't known for sturdy hardware.

Dgander980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

@Sevir Who is grasping for straws? I didnt write the Amazon articles. Go see on Amazon yourself and tell me how much people got their PS4 bricked. If youre assuming im angry because the PS4 launched youre even more delusional. Its factual evidence right there on Amazon not just a random number pulled out of Yoshida's ass for good PR. And before you blame Amazon for Sony's deliberate manufacturing and financial problems keep in mind that IGN, Taco Bell and Kotaku's PS4s didnt come from Amazon and suffered the same problems. Sugar coat it any way you like but this is a real problem and to make matters worse Christmas is just around the corner. Poor little Timmy is going to put on his PS4 to play Knack only to realize his day is ruined.

Klad980d ago

76 pages of complaints!! WOW!!

kenshiro100980d ago

For all we know, they could be troll accounts on the site screaming foul.

Keep grasping at those straws! Its sad how you guys are wishing hardware failure just to carry out your agendas.

BallsEye979d ago (Edited 979d ago )

@Sevir
@shadowgeist00

Pointing out that around 50% of clients have problems with console not turning on/overheating is grasping straws? Now that was funny...

Creating accounts on official sony forums and amazon to troll? Only sonyfanboys are that insane. You guys got no life. Oh btw...Kotaku IGN and other reviewers wtih broken consoles out of the box are trolling too?

Canada helped too buddy. ;P

NateCole980d ago

As i have said a million times already. Mobile gaming will never replace console gaming.

Mobile gaming will never have

1. The graphics of console gaming
2. Screen size of console gaming
3. The sound of console gaming
4. The ease and fun of console gaming at home with friends

The majority of those kids playing mobile games will eventually grow up and want something more deep than mbile gaming. Its a given. Console gaming is here to stay and i don't see it going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

tontontam0980d ago

I laugh at those who says
"mobile graphics will surpass blablabla"

by that time there will be ps5 and xbox two.

ritsuka666980d ago

Launch tells us very little.Call down please..

frostypants980d ago

Add crappy social games to that.

EXVirtual980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

Proof that consoles aren't going anywhere.
Mobiles will NOT take over gaming.

Some people say that mobiles will 'dwarf' the PS4 and XBO in terms of power, but Iphones cost more than the PS4 and the XBO (when they first come out). Could you imagine how expensive that crap would be? It's barely possible anyway, as you would need to develop quantum physics for the damn phone to match the PS4/XBO. You can only make chips and processors so small before they fry like a chicken.

Console gaming is bigger than ever and it's not going ANYWHERE.

jhoward585980d ago

Mobile aren't going anywhere and consoles aren't going anywhere.

In the future there won't be a such of things as a "stand a alone device" anymore.

Every devices will have to depend on other devices to grow.

GribbleGrunger980d ago

Not probably, it IS the fastest selling console of all time:

http://i.imgur.com/6oi7WWm....

GarrusVakarian980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

Wow.....damn impressive. Had no idea the GBA was that high either, but looking back it makes sense, me and every other kid on my street had one of those when i was younger.

GribbleGrunger980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

I'm assuming you also noticed that all that other data was for a months sales while the data for the PS4 is one day? In a months time the PS4 will have not just beaten the sales record but destroyed it entirely. We could be looking at around 2.2 to 2.5 million in one month.

NateCole980d ago

Month vs 24 hours.

Yes the PS4 has sold 5 times the amount of PS3 sold in a month in 24 hrs.

Crazy

Triella980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

@GribbleGrunger
2.2 to 2.5 million ? With Black Friday and Christmas approaching It will probably be more around 3.2 million (1.7 million in EU and 1.5 million in the US). Mark my words !

Concertoine980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

@natecole
well to be fair that's because there were very few ps3's manufactured at first. it was a b*tch to find one for christmas and stuff.
i would say the ps4 is the first console launch ever that at least slightly meets high consumer demand in terms of numbers shipped.
the xbox one will likely not be far from PS4 at launch, just because i think MS also wanted to have tons of consoles available at launch. if numbers weren't a problem at the launch of last gen, the wii 360 and ps3 would all be much higher.

awesomeabe1998980d ago

Sales by end of 2013:
Wii U(already sold 3.9 million): 6-8 million
PS4: 3-4 million
XB1: 3-4 million

I think PS4 and XB1 numbers will freeze for a while because of lack of games in early 2014, like what happened with Wii U. The Wii U sold like 3 million by end of 2012, and froze for the next 6 months.

"I'm assuming you also noticed that all that other data was for a months sales while the data for the PS4 is one day?"

OMG, no i didn't notice that.....now my mind IS blown. PS4 is one hot item right now, and rightly so, Sony did an awesome job.

4 the gamers!

clouds5980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

Rightly so you say. Why exactly? It's expensive, offers nothing new and has 2 mediocre games and a cool indy shmup. That's it. Not even backwards compatibility...
PLZ gimme some arguments :-) i wanna feel the hype too. I know Sony has done a great job at marketing but I really don't see the money's worth...

plaZeHD980d ago (Edited 980d ago )

Where's PS2?

Sevir980d ago

That's quite an impressive feat, now what more interesting is the software attach rate,

More than a million people picked up COD:Ghost, Battlefield and AC4 on launch day. And probably close to 900k picked up Killzone:Shadow Fall.

The software attach rate must be extremely high since most everyone purchased over 3 games at launch! I'm sure Fifa and Need for Speed are up there!

Impressive sales abd the most successful launch in console history. Good Job Sony!

Playstation the true gamers champion

first1NFANTRY980d ago

Goes to show you if the ps3 released the same time as the 360 things would have turned out completely different. Still Sony has done a tremendous job with the ps4. Can't wait for the 29th here in Aus.
