It's not meant to be an opinion centered around Doom & Gloom but one of caution given the performance of the current generation with the 360 and PS3.

The PS4 and XB1 are much more powerful and complex that involved Sony and Microsoft racing to the finish line as it were.

It launched and it wasn`t a disaster.

The PS4 is definitely ready. I've been uploading and sharing screenshots and video of KZ:Shadowfall all day. It's an absolutely amazing game console.

Microsoft and Sony both made the same decision: start production when the hardware was ready because the software can always be updated. The result is that while a day one patch will be required, at least you'll have a console on day one. The alternative would mean hardware shortages across the board and nobody would have gotten one at launch.
Personally I'm more than fine with having to download a patch at launch than having the consoles in short supply that I'd never get one.
SeanDKnight  +   500d ago
Not so in the case of the XB1. Did you forget Microsoft's original plan was that it was to be an always-on device? The patch for it is a result of Microsoft doing a complete turnaround on the original concept.
mydyingparadiselost  +   500d ago
Actually there already is a patch for the Xone, the MoonlightSwami guy downloaded one and it was NOT the day one DRM patch. All the new systems, including the WiiU, rely on patches for their hardware just like the generation we're leaving. It's unfortunate the industry has gotten to a point of having to release hardware and even games that will refuse to funtion properly without after release patching but for now it is what it is.

Mine worked fine. I'm downloading the plus stuff now even though it says psn is undergoing maintenance. I played shadow fall first and it didn't sound "like a jet engine". I had a extra rubber circle thing that came from a tv I no longer have and fit perfectly and discreetly under the "wobble" corner. I'm happy as hell the ps store is quick and I got better connection speeds in the test them I ever did with my ps3. This wasn't a disaster in the least and I hope mass panic and trolls die down soon. I don't want to have to read the same things when xbox one launches. Electronics fail my friends and if you buy either console at the minimum you have a year to get a new one, let's try and be adults here.

Yeah. Mine was DOA, but at least I'll be getting another unit from Sony in 1-3 weeks. It sucks though I was excited to play it.

Ohh I know man. Genuinely sorry bro. I wish things had a zero percent failure rate... Maybe then there would be no wars....haha probably not :)

Let's just say the review s haven't been that great now and the console problems software or hardware has not helped..

If your ps4 is 'A' okay then you'll be having a grand of weekend but those that purchased online that have issues are out of luck this weekend.

To make things worst, just like when the hottest phones come out and yours is defective, you have to wait for more shipments to get replacements. ..or wait for repairs from manufacturers.

I'll be praying next week for my xbox one. Xbox owners sure know the feeling.

Relax! 0.4% is at least 2,900 broke units!
Sony had at least 725.000 pre-orders for the PS4 in the US. Sony said approx. 0.4% were broke. That is 2.900 units (725.000 x0.004).

http://www.forbes.com/sites...

http://www.polygon.com/2013...

That number is very low. 3,000 units is nothing. It sure as h... sucks for those who got a broke unit but the number is extremely low.

Here are the numbers from Xbox 360 (23.7), PS3 (10%) and Wii (2.7%) from way back when.

Relax! All is good. Greatness awaits!

Can't exactly take that .4% as fact though since it was a number based on what was in consumers hands at the time. When Yoshida said it, the console hadn't even officially launched yet, so to extrapolate it to the entire launch population and compare it to post-launch failure rates of the last generation is disingenuous.

Could be less, could be more, could be exactly right. We won't know for sure what the failure rate is until these things have been put through their paces.
DK_Kithuni_71  +   500d ago
The FRL (Failure Rate Level) of consumer electronics are normally high. These units are complicated little pieces. Look at the FRL-numbers for past console releases i provided. The PS3 had 10% back then. If Sony can mannage 0.4% or even 4.0% FRL for the PS4 that would be a huge success.

Greatness awaits..!

People forget that when last gen consoles launched, they consoles were not as online centric as they were by the end of the generation. When we have games that have launch issues, what do you think is going to happen when consoles that are more online focused launch. The people that are having problems are of course going to be much more vocal than the ones who are experiencing no problems and going about their business.

They started putting the consoles in boxes two months ago. Did anyone think that when they did that, it would be the end of all software updates? Of course not. They didn't sit there twiddling their thumbs. They kept working on the software. And they are going to keep working on it for the next few years. Why are people acting like this is suddenly unusual and a sign that the console was not ready. Stop with the disaster talk. No product has a 100% success rate.

Why I don't have any problems with my 4? Servers dwn common for new product.xbots are scared of the four . The hype is real the console works great ask anyone that got a ps4, ps4 is no 360 that thing was built out. Of scraps, I'll say the ps4 is more reliable then ps3 so far. Five people got one I know , we been palyin for hours ,the ps4 doesnt make a sound or barely gets hot, its amazing..............when the bone drops next week ima pose like I bought one and say it brickk tooo

No need to. The Xbox 720 was named that (720!) for a reason ;-)
Felonycarclub8  +   500d ago
My PS4 woks flawlessly, suck for those that had problems. I am still amazed at how small it is especially since I have it next to my PS3 lol and also at how quiet it is. Resogun is sweet :-)

Important News! buy nothing new it could break. What I want to know is why should there be any failures at all. A lot of electronics are mass produced yet I never of anyone returning there phones cause of some major flaw. What's the deal? Why must they present scare tatics all the time. I have already dealt with the 360 RROd 3 times. I don't need to here this type of S__t every time I buy a system.
GamerXGATT  +   500d ago
No disaster yet, fail article! C'mon how can you ask that question when PS4 just launched A OK
