The next-gen's potential isn't defined by the launch games

MMGN: "The launch lineup for both the PS4 and Xbox One is easily the best we’ve ever had (both first and third-party) for at least three generations. We've still got a little bit to go before first and third-party developers realise the full potential and technical power behind both machines, and missing out or being overly critical on either console from misjudgment of their launch titles would be a mistake." (Dead Rising 3, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, PS4, Ryse: Son of Rome, Xbox One)

launch games do not define a console's legacy.
Septic  +   692d ago
Indeed, although they can be an important part of it. In a few years however, people will associate the likes of Infamous and Drive Club with the launch titles considering how soon they will be releasing.
jc48573  +   692d ago
I don't know. Some of them had little effect on how well a console did.

I've been to this circus many many times. the opening acts are exactly that. they are the warm up for the main attractions.

games like super mario world, altered beast, battle arena toshinden...etc are all great games in their own right but we all knew that better ones would come along.

Launch games are meant to give people something to play while patiently waiting for the heavy hitters to make their entrance. This is only the beginning.

Since people recognize what these consoles are fully about, they're buying it because they know what's in store when it comes to the games.

I wouldn't even say hardcore PlayStation or Xbox fans are buying the consoles solely for the post launch.

Any gamer buying the console are looking for that Uncharted or God Of War or Gears and Halo.

Plus new Ip's from both Sony and MS. And that's the secret sauce here. Gamers are full aware of new Ip's and new franchise that are being made and brand new experiences, from the None hardcore crowd. The crowd that's between hardcore and core

Imo that's who's buying the PS4 now and X1 next week. The gamer has grown and more aware then previous gens.

It doesn't get through fanboys heads though.

The reason I'm sold on the PS4 without hesitation is because of what they provided last generation with the PS3. Despite the technical hurdles, the PS3 ended up delivering some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. A judging by the way the PS4 has already started, we're in for another PS2 era of gaming.
Plagasx  +   692d ago
Exactly. If that was the case then PS3, PS2 and PS1 would have all been failures...

I'm guessing I should put off my PS4 purchase until then.

It never has, and never will.
Qrphe  +   692d ago
Exactly, however the 7th gen was "baby's first console" so it's harder for them to understand.
ambientFLIER  +   692d ago
That's funny, because the sony fans are spelling doom for the xbox one because some launch games are in lower rez than the ps4...
Qrphe  +   692d ago
It would be funny if all of them did, but that's absolutely not the case. Fanboys in general are cancerous
jessupj  +   692d ago
I don't know, maybe that's because that issue is to do with the full potential of the console and it's limitations that will affect it for the ENTIRE generation and not just the quality of a launch game that intelligent gamers know is indicative of the quality we'll be seeing in the future.
ambientFLIER  +   690d ago
Um, no. The Xbox games will get better every year. Developers will get more efficient with their code, figure out esram, and MS will do the same with their drivers and developers tools, and unlock some of that reseved kinect/os power, just like they said.

As apposed to the sony developers that are not going to bother optimising for the PS4 and Sony themselves that won't update their drivers. /s

smh. Some people really need to think before they type.

The xbone is in no way doomed, but you're going to have to accept the fact that it's going to receive inferior multiplat ports. If you can't deal with that then get a PS4.

Hooray, finally someone said it.

Judging a console solely from its launch titles is naive and idiotic. The games that come out shortly after the launch games are usually way better. Launch games are just to get the consoles sold, they usually don't have a particularly long lasting impression compared to what comes shortly after.

As darthv72 said:

"I've been to this circus many many times. the opening acts are exactly that. they are the warm up for the main attractions. "

Great way to put it.

I jut played the first chapter of BF4 and my god I was impressed. For someone that went from PS3 BF to PS4 BF I can see the bigass difference. YouTube videos serve no justice to these games, you really got to see it for yourself. PLaying on a 60" screen also helps. To think that these are launch titles wow cant wait for the possibilities
Truehellfire  +   692d ago
Yeah youtube and any other video streaming doesn't do games justice. Seeing it in person is a whole different story.
cell989  +   692d ago
I never knew this was so true, up until today when I booted up BF4, first thing I noticed were the visuals
PygmelionHunter  +   692d ago
Well, no sh*t. Now, tell that to the morons that still think the Wii U is about as powerful as a 360.
jessupj  +   692d ago
And to the pathetic fanboys thinking the PS4 is doomed because of a few bad reviews.
PygmelionHunter  +   691d ago
Agreed! What bothers me is how often those doom articles get approved here, it's ridiculous.
