NowGamer: Sony's Adam Boyes has explained that the company is working on getting fans the games they want on PlayStation platforms and that includes the likes of Shenmue and Yakuza.
While others work on gimmicks and tv features as focal points of their gaming consoles, sony is focused on bringing video games to the playstation with gimmicks and features being secondary to games.
some silly people think ps move, ps eye, eyetoy, ps home are failures without seeing the genius in what sony does. They have just enough support for the niche market thats into them l
Shenmue is one of those games that appear on many "Greatest Video Games of All Time" list. There is a good reason why. This game was way ahead of its time. Many of today's games are greatly influenced by it's design and development. The game developer, Yu Suzuki is a legend, a true "forward-thinker" that is greatly needed in the industry.
I dont care how many features and apps PS4 has or lacks, but if they bring tons of great exclusives, then only thing my PS4 will, is play games, games and more games and ONLY that!
Shenmue was originally a Dreamcast-exclusive (which itself began as a game for the Sega Saturn) which then got a sequel that was released on the Dreamcast and Xbox later on. Since then, fans have been waiting AGES for a resolution to the cliffhanger which slapped everyone in the face at the end of Shenmue 2.
Sadly, the series -- despite having massive developmental budgets at the time -- failed to recoup costs with sales, and Sega corporate decided to ice the series indefinitely after Shenmue 2. The games got critical acclaim, and despite having a cult following, didn't perform well in sales regardless of region.
Sega tried one last time to gain more sales by bringing Shenmue 2 to the Xbox in 2002, but the game once again sold poorly. The fact that the Dreamcast itself died a year earlier didn't help anything. The games were both truly just ahead of their time. Dreamcast adopters couldn't wrap their heads around the games' ambitious gameplay designs and massive scope, and the lack of success of the first game meant the second game had no hype via marketing or word-of-mouth when it launched, dooming the sequel to failure.
There have been several spin-off games for mobile devices and even an ill-fated MMO for the game released over the years, but not true sequel to Shenmue 2 yet.
For the person who hit disagree and the others to come. http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... and http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... (SEGA/XBOX) Those are the only consoles the series has been on. Anyway I hope to see this game on ALL systems because it's a great series.
Awww, you sound pretty insecure about that happening. The amount of butthurt from Xbox fans if this became a PS4 exclusive would be unprecedented. God knows, if Shenmue III was an Xbone exclusive, I would be sooo damn butthurt myself, it's not even funny. So let's not pretend.
The Last Guardian is still in production, they wouldn't keep sinking money into a project that was never going to come out. It's a PS4 game. Agent is the only one that is probably on the back burner indefinitely, and will probably end up being multiplatform, unless that Sony-Rockstar deal ends up coming to fruition.
@JasonKCK
No, Shenmue is native Dreamcast glory. I think the Xbox version of Shenmue II was slightly enhanced graphically and you could take save screenshots using the in-game camera, but since it didn't have the Japanese voice acting, and you couldn't transfer your save data from the first game, it wasn't the best version by any stretch of the imagination.
@FriedGoat- Shenmue never released on PS2, Dreamcast got both games, while XBox got only Shenmue 2, if Shenmue was ever on PS2, then I wouldn't have bought an O.G. Xbox.
what the hack is shenmue and yakuza ,i've never herd of it but will play it if good ,but saying that sony will win the war ,thats an tounge of a fanboy and i'am no fan boy and is getting both new games .
shit i just jiz in my pants I'm a big shenmue fan i play that game on deamcast for ever until someone stole my game Sony if you do this you can bury me with a ps4 I'm a PS, Sega and Nintendo fan
I remember learning a new move then going to the dojo to practice it on fukson. I also remember going to the bar to play super hang on on the arcade machine. I also remember going to work as a forklft driver.
Thank You! I was going to say that. I still own and finished Shenmue 1 for my Dreamcast, and I finished Shenmue 2 for my original xbox. When I read it came to PS2 my initial thought was...
"maybe in Japan"
Anyhow, someone better release a 3rd entry or I won't be satisfied. All that training, and still no Lan Di :-(
I wouldn't cry I would simply die!! I think the nostalgic experience would possibly cause many fans of the series to suffer a synchronised heart attack. This world is simply too cruel to make such dreams happen....:( I wish they release this game one day so I can die an honourable death...
It's so reassuring to see so much Shenmue love on here.
In response to your comment, yeah I have to agree. No other of the big 3 are doing this, besides Sony. We already know Cerny and Yu Suzuki are good friends: http://www.neogaf.com/forum...
Suzuki knows that like-minded developers who appreciate his work like David Cage and countless others have a strong affiliation with PlayStation. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
If any platform is going to be the best option exclusively, it would be PS4, as that is projected to be the most popular and successful console on the market, and is already the most powerful console for a vision that is uncompromising. And Sega have already said that the only realistic way Shenmue would or could happen is if one of the console manufacturers were to fund its production. http://www.destructoid.com/...
Omfg do it and you will make millions of grown men cry including myself.
Do it SONY and you have my blessing
Now excuse me while I change my drawers
I love Shenmue, but I expect if this does happen it'd just be a HD remake of the first one. Which'd be cool, but not as cool as Shenmue 3.
This sounds interesting.
Wow that would be a megaton announcement!!
I never played it and I always hear people talking about this game on n4g. But here is some great news for those people and I hope it comes true.
