Combined worldwide sales of the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii have cemented the outgoing console generation as the most successful of all-time, leaving huge footsteps for the incoming generation of consoles to follow.
According to vgchartz sales data, the PS3 has sold 80.44 million units worldwide, the Xbox 360 78.85 million, and the Nintendo Wii 100.32 million.
The combined figure equates to 259.61 million consoles sold worldwide by the world’s biggest gaming hardware manufacturers.
This is compared to the 204 million PlayStation 2, original Xbox and Gamecube consoles sold globally in the previous generation.
Not accounting for future sales of the outgoing consoles, the PS4, Xbox One and Wii U would need to sell a combined 260 million units by 2021 to be considered more successful.
