The Engima That Is Dragons Dogma

Sean Halliday of Pixel Gate writes:

''Dragon’s Dogma has prompted the strangest range of reviews in quite some time. From near perfect scores to full on condemnations, Dragon’s Dogma is a strange beast. The last time a game divided opinions in such a manner (at least the last game I recall) was 2009s Deadly Premonition. Marred by low production values and some rigid controls, Deadly Premonition was in actual fact a deep and clever little game. Fast forward to 2012 and Deadly Premonition has developed a cult hit status. Dragon’s Dogma seems destined to go the same way.'' (Dragon's Dogma, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, PS3, Xbox 360)

Dragons Dogma was excellent

Indeed it was. I always imagined how amazing it could be with added co-op, perhaps Monster Hunter like.

Every time I booted the game I just had to listen too the theme song at least once. That song kicked ass!!!

I wouldn't go so far as excellent, it was really good to a point then the game lost me & I had to stop because the aftermath was unbelievable. Not in the OMG sense, rather the "this wouldn't ever happen in this situation" sense. (Midnight encounter, intrusion, jail, NOBODY CARES AFTER YOU BREAK OUT)

The game is a great base, hopefully they can expand on all the elements & improve the writing to make an improved successor!

I would agree with you that the writing needs enhancing and that the main storyline was mediocre. It felt like a submission, honestly. But the gameplay more than made up for that, for me. Dragon's Dogma is one of my favorite games to play this generation.

Loved DD... want to play it again.. Might have to pick up Dark Arisen.

It's free on PS+

Such an amazing game. Which feels odd saying it considering it's made by Capcom and they haven't had such a good track record lately. I'm hoping they actually do a proper sequel with co-op.

One of my all time fav games...but it suffered from some glaring issues that could have made it even better...not the story pr the waypoints. Neeeded a legitimate ng+ and ng++ and so on...maybe more ur dragon enemies. I just found that u get all these rares and then nothin to do with them. I play dlc and while its hard...it is easy for any high level character.

Probably going to start it later today. Always wanted it since launch, but with getting it and the expansion through PS+, there is no reason not to play it now.

One of the surprises (for me) of this gen - no expectations for it, before playing it, had a total blast when I did.

Rented Dragons Dogma from Gamefly on a week long trial, ended up buying it after the trial ended, not one regret. I even bought Dark Arisen and that was good too. Sure it has it's rough edges and the story is kind of wack but other than that, it was a blast. I had more fun fighting dragons in that game than I did in Skyrim that's for sure.

I got it form PS plus, and yea it's a strange beast, but excellently satisfying.

I really thought it was Capcom trying to feed off of the Demon's Souls audience but holy crap this game really is unique. It's a high fantasy game that still manages to have a touch of the cuh-ray-zay games that Capcom used to pump out.

Dragon's Dogma is in my top three games of this console generation personally, along with Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. It deserves a ps4 sequel capcom!
