Ubisoft: Watch Dogs Progressing "very well", Delay was Key for it to be Top-seller

"Watch Dogs" and "The Crew" are earning very good progress according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. Says, as stated by Gamespot, "the development teams are "really happy" to take advantage of the extra development time so as to achieve "very high quality games.'" Guillemot further iterates that the delay to 2014 should allow the game to be the bestseller for that year despite being a Q1 release. (PC, PS3, PS4, Ubisoft, Watch Dogs, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

We will miss it at launch. But good things come to those that wait. :D
zeal0us  +   254d ago
True but Ubisoft seem to be forgetting a lot top tier games also are coming out next year.

It takes a lot of work to make a AAA top tier game. I honestly wish more devs would delay a game if they think the game isn't in good shape. Cough EA Cough. Battlefield 4 crashes so much it's stupid. Even on the angryjoeshow he went out and bought a new GPU and battlefield 4 still crashes. I love his angry rants. Haha

"Delay was Key for it to be Top-seller"

and there we go guys. confirmed delayed just so it could sell better. Because we all really believed that just weeks away from launch, the game wasn't ready :)

Well when you're investing millions in a product you want it to sell, and it was a smart choice IMO.

Why have Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs compete at launch. Just wait a few months and launch it then. March / April seems much better IMO.

Exactly

"Because we all really believed that just weeks away from launch, the game wasn't ready :)"

I agree; yet I think we wouldn't have believed so much if they didn't say it would be ready when they full well known that it wasn't ready. :D

It looked like it was already a high quality game, I really expect to see new features and game play added because it's been delayed for a long time. I mean are they really just going to keep polishing it until next year.

I honestly have a feeling it was so it didn't drive sales away from AC4. They are probably sitting on it now not doing all that much new to it.
gillri  +   254d ago
yes I hope they spend alot of time polishing it and adding better graphics that take more advantage of the PS4,
christrules0041  +   254d ago
I wouldn't expect a lot of changes. But I think they may add more of a variety of the surveying missions. When watching there gameplay videos I could see surveying getting really repetitive. With the whole hacking system since it's something that hasn't been done before I expected bugs so maybe they are patching bugs due to them working with there engine to add new gameplay elements that they have.

Delay was Key for it to be top seller..

In other words, we don't want to release it up against GTA V, BF4, CoD Ghosts, AC4, Killzone:SF, Forza 5, Mario 3D World

We want to release it at a time when the release schedule is barren and empty ;)
KillrateOmega  +   254d ago
Yeah. Pretty much this.
MWong  +   254d ago
Agreed. At least when it releases I hope they improve on game mechanics. Possibly a graphics boost to what we saw E3 2012.
USMC43  +   254d ago
One can hope!

I feel violated. I commented positively towards Ubi when they revealed it was delayed, said something along the lines of "I respect Ubisoft for delaying watchdogs to give it more polish". Now i know the real reason was only to make sure they made maximum $.....it shouldn't really surprise me considering how Ubi have been recently.

Slowly becoming EA
stavrami  +   254d ago
how well early release well ??
MrPerfect813  +   254d ago
Well yeah it will be a top seller, now that it wont face off with GTA, BF4, AC4 and COD Ghosts
310dodo  +   254d ago
since its been delayed Ubi please insert

clothing customization, car ownership, property ownership, flying vehicles and bigger world.

I wanted this day 1 on my PS4 but I guess I will have to wait a little longer hopefully its worth it
Agent2009  +   254d ago
Man, this ain't no GTA, nor Saints Row. Flying vehicles wouldn't fit into the concept.
theshredded  +   254d ago
That's useless imo,we're basically sick of the same things many offered hence y GTA V felt bland after finishing it once
CrossingEden  +   254d ago
Um, they got only a few extra months of development, not another two full years, also, this is NOT GTA, if you want those things than play GTA.

Patience is a virtue.
SeraphimBlade  +   254d ago
Good to see they care about putting out a good game more than getting in on the console launch rush.
RE_L_MAYER  +   254d ago
Otherwise who would buy assassinss creed black flag on same release window right
BattleTorn  +   254d ago
It sucks cause with the delay of Watch_dogs, gone were our hopes of having a new 3rd-party IP at launch.

The only new IPs now are Ryse, and Knack.
ICE PICK  +   254d ago
It will be a broken, buggy mess. See other Ubisoft titles. I wrote them off after the technical joke that was AC3's multiplayer.
theXtReMe1  +   254d ago
I originally thought the delay was a money move to set the game in a spot with less competition. Then, I watched the video at the bottom of the page and realized that it isn't the same video we watched just a short while back, it was an updated video with new, higher resolution textures and new effects in place. It looks phenomenal! I suggest everybody take a look at it and make sure Im not imagining things. But everything looks sharper, cleaner and the effects are jaw dropping!

If this is what the game looks like, when it launches... Than the delay was well worth it.
AlexFili  +   254d ago
Great stuff. Ubisoft are one of the best developers right now
solidjun5  +   254d ago
Of course it was key. You guys wanted to delay it to sell better. It had nothing with quality. I wish they had said that in the beginning.

Anyway, i'm sure the 7 months will be beneficial. The game has potential to be great.

Truth is M$ forced Ubisoft to delay it because of parity. Expect PS4 version to be gimped...
r3f1cul  +   254d ago
if this delay means i dont get a day one update and 3 updates within 2 weeks of the games coming out im all for devs taking extra time to give me an actual working non broken game... honestly wish more devs would put more time and effort into their product now a days. it makes me sad to see all this quantity over quality sequels year in and year out like we have now a days
ELpork  +   254d ago
Also key for Assassins Creed to sell!
