PlayStation 4 only supports HDMI connection for visual output. Surprisingly, PlayStation 4 supports a multitude of resolutions as opposed to the Xbox One which only allowed the resolution to be 720p or 1080p, Xbox One doesn’t support 1080i.
PS4 is backward compatible proof with Gaikai, ready to support ps1 games resolutions and mini games
i think it will automatically upscale all of them to 1080p.
then they'll look better than the new 1080p native games! AWESOME!
It was in the PS4 ultimate FAQ
lol it don't indicate ps1 games gaikai compatibility, since all games will output @ 1080p.
I love me some 480p ;P
PS4: Only Supports Everything.
except for PS3 controllers. Whoopsy :P
After playing with my ds4 that's a good thing.
Doesnt need to. Whoopsy :P
@lashes2ashes How is having to pay $60 a good thing when I have extra DS3 controllers that will start gathering dust after I get my PS4? Only on N4G, only on N4G...
@hunter I think when u buy a ps4, a ds4 controller comes w it. U could always trade in ur old stuff and get the new ones. This type of situation isn't new, it happens almost every new generation.
Does it support monochrome monitors used in the 70's for the TRS-80 computers? I think not. Pre-order cancelled!!!.:)
thank god i got rid of my 720p 32' 60hz vizio for a 42' 1080p led smart 120 hz viziohdtv.
So 480p just for one letter yeah lol.
About time they add the option to resize the screen.
wonder what the first AAA sub-720p game will be on next gen consoles give it a year or two and it will happen
I can see into the future: 1) It's all PS2 games playable through Gaikai. 2) Yes, you're just as much of a jackass in the future as you are now.
First AAA title sub 1080 can be found on X1, Call of Duty Ghosts.
Thank the Red God it supports 480p a man likes to be nostalgic sometimes and pretend he's playing PS2
Awh, 1080p here 1080p there, 1080p everywhere......... PS4!
No 240p? PRE-ORDER CANCELLED!
forget that, no 144p, PRE ORDER CANCELLED!!!
This article is funny.
Is there such a thing as an HDMI 1080i or 480p HDTV? I'm kind of confused at why anyone would want to output in 480p or 1080i over an HDMI equipped tv that is either going to be 720p or 1080p anyway. So you can downscale on the PS4? WTF kind of feature is that?
My first 32" LCD TV was only 1080i or 720P. It didnt have 1080P
2nd that. a Samsung 32inch that I got "free" with my mobile phone contract, that was only 720p
My first LCD was 19" and could only do 720p or 1080i as well. I used to output to 1080i. Not like you can tell the difference between progressive or interlaced in most games anyway.
Yeah, but an HDMI equipped 1080i tv? The whole point of HDMI was to be able to do 1080p. 32" 720p TV's all come with HDMI today so that I get. I have never seen an HDMI equipped 480p or 1080i tv.
First of all my brother will be boned because he is still using a 32" CRT TV LOL. Secondly. Does it not support HDMI Audio?
PS4 supports both HDMI audio and Digital out.
Just upgraded my 2006 37'' Vizio 720p LCD to a 2013 42'' Vizio 1080p LED TV just for the Playstation 4. Worlds apart in performance.
I've just treated myself to a new 60inch tv for my ps4!
I think arcade games and last gen games should be run at 4k or close "2.5k" They should at least have different options for higher resolutions? That would make a clear difference in features and would make it truly next gen compared to last gen!
Sony have 4k TV's so yes for films but games in 4k forget about that for at least another gen.
Xbone supports 4k says hi
Ps4 will enable 4k support if it isnt there on day 1 but its supposedly not for gaming. Dunno if it upscales games to 4K, but the Xbox "720" does I think... so it would be weird if Ps4 couldn't.
CoD Ghosts on X1 sub 1080 says hi
Another advantage to the X1. Why doesn't the PS4 support it at launch?
Damn and here I bought an universal RF switch.......
Might be a dumb question but if Bf4 is 900p ,what would the resolution be. Would be up scaled to 1080p on my tv? Confused
YES. The output resolution will be 1080p.
What's the point of this? Who has a 480p TV with HDMI?
Some non bluray films and older games may look better at 480p rather than blown up to 1080p. The more options the better I say.
Gonna trade in my Ds3 for a ds4
