The Next Lord of the Rings Game Is A Brand New Open-World, Action Prequel

The next Lord of the Rings game is called Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, and it's an open-world action game set between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Shadow of Mordor, developed by the folks at Monolith (Guardians of Middle-Earth), will be out for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. Warner Bros. announced the game in a Game Informer cover reveal today, and the January edition of the magazine will have more details about the game. Hit the jump for the full rundown.

The story is too old to be commented.

An open world Lord of the Rings game. I'm so hoping this turns out great. Just curious though. What events in an open world Lord of the Rings game can you put into it? There is nothing that comes to my mind.

The Middle Earth universe encapsulates hundreds, in fact thousands of years of story, the Hobbit and the LotR were just a piece of the ice berg....

I hope to see the depth of demon souls/Dark souls, and the animation and look of the early looks of the up coming Deep down game. Perhaps a bit of Skyrim and the Witcher 2 and 3 will be good sources of what direction a game such as this can go in...

Open world LotR game and Middle-Earth to explore has a nice ring to it, the "potential" is there. I hope they nail it...

Yup. I'm not thinking about a solid storyline because there is a solid basis for that. I'm thinking in open world games you see random events. For example in far cry 3 you see the 2 factions fighting each other. You see dogs chasimg deer or pigs. Tigers pouncing on people and killing them. You see the Vaas faction(the red dudes) who has some of your wariors captive. You can choose to watch them, pass by them or even join into the action.

I'm just curious what random encounters could they make in a Lord of the Rings game?

Is it going to be the entire map from the films! This has potential to be incredible, so many races, so many stories, so much to explore!!!

Really, I think this is one of the most potentially-fruitful untapped franchises.

There were only 3 good LotR game; Battle for Middle Earth 1-2 was good and the Return of the King game was somewhat good then nothing. For LotR to shine again in gaming, they should do a game like Skyrim/Withcer 2 or maybe one like dragon age 1.

War in the north was good, conquest wasn't that bad especially the multiplayer. The battle for middle earth games were freaking epic! So no most of the game have been enjoyable minus aragorns quest.

Oh joy, it's another prequel with ''good'' intentions i'm sure. Seems like they're becoming the norm these days.

It's a prequel to the lore their making their own story, don't see a problem in that. It's not like they are straying away from a certain story line it's something new all on its own. It's I between the events of the hobbit and lotr.

All I hope for is Maybe a cameo here and there considering the game is Based in Mordor that may be doubtful.
