Top 6 Greatest Launch Games Of All Time | Slimgamer

Two new consoles are almost upon us, and with them a whole host of new games that launch day and date with the hardware. These “launch games” are, for many people, the first taste of a new generation and they set the stage for the years ahead. While most launch games are nothing to write home about - previous generation ports and titles rushed to meet the launch deadline - there are others whose quality and influence extend far beyond launch day and become the platform’s defining titles. Some are not just great launch games, they’re some of the best games ever made. (Halo: Combat Evolved, Industry, Retro, Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, Tetris, Wii, Wii Sports)

Awesome games, but did this really need to be one page per list item?

Here's the list:

Soul Calibur (Dreamcast, 1999)

Super Mario World (SNES, 1991)

Tetris (Game Boy, 1989)

Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox, 2001)

Wii Sports (Wii, 2006)

Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64, 1996)

If you got 0.1 of a cent per an advertisement on each page, you'd do the same.

I know... "dislikes" will be coming my way, but we all know it's about money.

Super Mario World and Halo are the two best launch/bundled games for me. So much fun was had from those two games alone.

N64 was the greatest console that I manage to get another one for 99cent two years after getting one for $200. Owned about 35 games and played over 40.

Dump Wii Sports and you've got a good list. That game is a gimmick demo disc. Halo:CE is my personal favorite launch title ever. That's pretty much all my Xbox ever played.

Didn't play Super Mario 64 until years later but I can understand that being the best launch title of all time. Still holds up today despite coming at the beginnings of the 3d era. Anything else from that era feels like a clunky mess.

It's amazing that N64 only had 2 launch titles for North America: Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64. Both of which were extremely well received.

Sure, quantity helps, but the quality of launch titles are the real system pushers!
